Anybody want to bet that there are Democrats here in Wisconsin who woke up this morning and heard the results and said, "Gee, I guess I should have went and voted".

Not all of that 13% greater than predicted turnout were just Democrats either. I thought that the turnout should have been at least 40% with the vast majority of that 20% more than predicted being Democrats.

This was a popular vote election, so even if someone lived in the most red, the most Republican city or county in the state of Wisconsin they should have turned out to vote. No excuses. Elections are won by those who bother to turn out and vote, by those who choose to participate in the system.

If we cannot do better than this then a recall election against Walker will be very tough unless Democrats can get a well known name to run against him.

But I am disappointed that the turnout here in Wisconsin was not much greater than what it was.

1. Actually, the 13% equates to 65% greater than predicted turnout - which is insane for a
non-partisian spring election.

4. And, I'd think, 'merely' judicial. Just don't get the same interest as others.

9. And not all of that 13% were just Democrats. There should have been many, many more.
I still believe that this morning there are Democrats who are saying they should have voted on Tuesday. Obviously, thousands of Democrats chose not to vote so I wonder what was their excuse and what does it take to motivate them to vote?

5. Apparently, we haven't learned much. I hope that gets corrected
before the 2012 general election, or all is lost.

7. Really? 1.5 million people went and voted in a non-partisan spring election with ONE statewide race
and you think that's apathetic? That's insane. 8 weeks ago this was a sleeper race that Prosser would have won in a landslide. It's almost unprecedented that a sitting SC judge loses.

8. I suspect we reconfirmed that judicial elections just don't get the play that others do.
Not a 'good' lesson, but expected and understandable.

13. The ads sure were out there though.
There were campaign ads like a presidential race!

I got 6+ Pro-Prosser robocalls between M+Tuesday from various Citizens-for- and Americans-for- groups (Side note: can't the Kochs come up with anything new in a front-grou-name?).

Our mailbox has been piled full of anti-Kloppenburg, Pro-Prosser propganda.

The AM radio right-wingers are frothing daily, for hours at a time about this.

TV is saturated with ads.

I saw on HuffPo that right wing groups alone blew through over $3 million on Prosser.

Given all that, I am surprised at the turnout.

The righties really pulled out everything money could buy.

I can't decide whether to be happy because all that $ only gave them a 400-vote win, or depressed that all the $ gave them a win at all. It seems to show that people power (which Kloppenburg had over Prosser in spades!) has a tough time overcoming $ power (which tilted the other way.) Can someone cheer me up?

15. One thing to add
One thing to add:

I spent 13 hours (7Am-8PM) collecting recall signatures in Lazich's district--my home turf--on Tuesday. I split the time between two polling sites, and both of them had to call for more ballots, as they were running out early.

I am really surprised the numbers were that low. (Unfortunatley these were pretty right-leaning wards.)

10. There was no apathy here....
...in east-central Wisconsin. The election official I spoke with at closing said the turnout was "presidential".

I smell a rat.

16. A vote in the most red city or county was just as valuable as any.
Turnout by Democrats should have been presidential everywhere if they thought it was important enough.

It's easy to smell things, harder to prove things. What I smell is that too many people who would have liked to have seen Kloppenburg win did not bother to vote.

they have so many lame excuses why they didn't come out to vote. They leave it up to the next guy, hoping he/she will vote.

The Kochs do seem to be the "Kings of the robo-call."

I can't remember the last time I got one that WASN'T from a "Americans for ___ " or "Taxpayers for ____" or "Citizens for ____" Koch front group.
