1. That happened all night last night.
I think that they're entering so much information so quickly that they sometimes forget a line or two and only catch it later.

2. There's often a lag in reporting totals from precincts that have
just finished their count. It's just part of the process.

4. THIS is where questions arise.... People want to have any
discrepancies explained.. If the totals don't go their way in the end.

5. How is AP getting the numbers it is reporting?
The AP site is the only source I've seen; I haven't found an official "state" electoral results site. If this is a case of AP collecting the data as it is reported and then re-reporting, it wouldn't be surprising if there are lags and mistakes etc.

7. I believe I read recently (last few months) that the "precincts reporting" stat was going to be
done away with. I don't have a link but Google might help. Anyway, the ol' per cent reporting thingy is probably going the way of the dodo.

8. Having been involved in reporting numbers to the AP, I can say that sometimes things change without
a nefarious reason. There are massive amounts of people -- the vast majority of them volunteers -- involved in this kind of work, and it's unrealistic to expect every one of them to work at 100 percent efficiency long into the night. A stack gets placed in the wrong pile, a number is sent to the state without rechecking, and believe me, the person who screws up feels like absolute shit when they realize what they've done and they go and correct it.

10. So long as it's not Karl Rove tampering in democracy's domain
I can live with that!

BTW that reminds me -- a big shout-out to all the election judges & volunteers!

:woohoo:
