Of course there will be a recount but something like this should be shown to everyone that figures their vote doesn't count or doesn't matter.

27. Florida in 2000 never had a full recount. Gore would have won if it had.
There were over 26,000 votes thrown out in Duval County (Jacksonville) that were not verified. Most were from low income areas of town.

28. My understanding is that the Jefferson County precinct is in a Democratic area
While most of Jefferson County is red, the particular town this precinct is in is the most blue part of the county. I have heard conflicting info on the Milwaukee county precincts, some are saying it is a very blue collar part of the suburbs and others are saying it is a very red part of the suburbs. I guess we will see.

11. Against who
I don't think you can have a runoff unless there are more than two candidates and nobody gets more than 50%. Not even sure if that's what happens in WI.

In some places, especially with really small populations, and exact tie will be decided by high card or a coin flip. With this many votes it will probably be decided by recounts and the courts.

The good thing is that the fine people of Wisconsin got off their butts to go vote, and didn't make the same assumption I did.

17. 3 precincts left, we're up by 224 votes
The remaining precincts are two (2) from Milwaukee and one (1) from Jefferson (which is solidly conservative).

Assuming all the absentee ballots are reflected in the vote totals and Milwaukee's final precincts were active and reflect the trend of the rest of Milwaukee County, Kloppenburg should win.

But then again Rove's tactics are usually for his people to win by just enough to avoid a recount. And this doesn't appear to be happening. The very large turnout is the key to foiling Rovian measures.

38. It's all come down to a lone precinct in Jefferson County
All precincts are in except for 1 of Jefferson's 41 precints. We're ahead by 234 votes. Unfortunately, Prosser's lead in Jefferson so far is about 12,000 to 9,000. Unless this final precinct butts against the rest of the county, we're going to lose by a small margin.

39. Kloppenburg could still win if the precinct only has a few hundred votes.
The split isn't that dramatic so it could take a good chunk of votes to overcome a 234 vote lead. And there is a chance this precinct is more Dem than the rest of the county. Of course there is chance it is less Dem also.

113 votes - incredibly close and subject to change if there were even small errors along the way in the tally or if that precinct happens to be a bit more Rep. Wow, this is nerve wracking.

44. The Milwaukee Journal....
...is reporting that there are only about 250 votes that were cast there. That would be great, but I think the union information which says it's more like 750 is accurate. If there were only 250 votes left to be counted, Kloppenburg would be claiming victory right now.

46. Hmm. Are we sure that 750 isn't eligible voters? If so, 250 could be about right.
I doubt that Kloppenburg will claim victory even when all of the votes are in with it being this close. Better to wait until the results are certified at this point.

47. I don't know, but the Lake Mills Local Newspaper....
...is saying it's b/w 700 and 760. Now, assuming 760 votes were cast, Kloppenburg would need to get at least 264 of them to win.

739,589 + 264 = 739,853
739,355 + 496 = 739,851

48. This source says 220 votes and Dem state rep for area says Prosser only picked up 2 votes so far.
State Rep. Kelda Helen Roys, a Democrat who represents the Lake Mills area, said Prosser picked up only 2 votes in Lake Mills, pending the count of 24 handwritten ballots.

The results of a single township in Jefferson County should be known by about 1 p.m. Wednesday after local officials finish examining votes from Tuesday's election.

About 220 votes were cast in Town of Lake Mills - seemingly not enough for Prosser to make up the votes he would need to defeat Kloppenburg.

Better to be ahead than behind but a 200 vote lead could disappear quickly in a recount. Argh. Too bad more Dems didn't turn out in Milwaukee. She could have won by 10 - 20 thousand votes easily.
