It was a blistering campaign, lousy with misleading attack ads, innuendo, even vulgarities.

And the attacks, launched mostly by groups unconnected with the campaigns of the actual Supreme Court candidates, worked. They mobilized the vote not only on the side of JoAnne Kloppenburg, who was expected to benefit the most from recent protests at the state Capital, but on the side of incumbent Justice David Prosser.

Charles Franklin, a UW political scientist who specializes in electoral politics, says that if Prosser manages to hang on, "even with a slim margin," it would be a signal that a highly mobilized opposition is "not necessarily fatal to Republicans," whereas a Prosser defeat would be a strong signal that the GOP has "pursued a program that overreaches what their electoral mandate was."

Either way, the fact that conservative voters showed up in droves means it's going to be close.

They CAN'T let that happen. Which is why I don't expect an honest count. But I'm crossing my fingers. And toes.

When you consider the amount of propaganda hurled across all media sources, the GOP GOTV efforts, and the total amount of money from both the Koch groups and the religious right, one could predict the RW would come out for this. I am just amazed, frankly, that it looks like K will win against all this. Hope for the future.

protestors and unions were really acting like winners.

and i think they had created quite a positive buzz for them selves.

these last few months and have had a false sense of reality.

6. Apparently there was a lot of outside money spent on Prosser ads

in the days before the election. You know what those kinds of outsider ads are like - short on the truth, big on the kind of calculated outrage that fires up Republican voters.

These corporations are going to make any democrat or reasonable republican look like the devil himself. It's going to be so much more of a gut punch to this country that ANYONE ever imagined...well, anyone other than the people who pushed the supremes to allow total, unobstructed corporate take-over of the USA.

9. it seems as if in state and local races

it is often the republicans who get the best numbers while too many democrats stay home. i don't know if that's applicable in WI for this race, but it does seem to happen a lot.

but the polls are open both before and after most people are working. here in NC they open at 6:30 and close at i think 8 pm. i don't know. just seems that most people would vote the right way if only they would vote.
