Lake Mills is in: Kloppenburg gets it by ~ 200

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin's fight over union rights came to a head at the polls as voters split almost evenly over whether to re-elect a conservative-leaning justice or give his little-known opponent his seat on the state Supreme Court.

The race between Justice David Prosser and challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg was officially too close to call, but unofficially, JoAnne Kloppenburg has earned at least a 219-vote edge.

Jefferson County Clerk Barbara Cook told Newsradio 620 WTMJ that Prosser had received 366 votes in the final municipality to report, the Town of Lake Mills, while Kloppenburg had 364 votes, with 24 hand-written votes yet to be counted.

After factoring in the the Journal Sentinel and Associated Press report that Kloppenburg held an unofficial 235 vote lead on Prosser before the Town of Lake Mills tally, that gives the Kloppenburg camp at least a 209-vote edge.

53. aquart, once you hear all the facts, you will understand that this is
a tremendous victory for labor. Prosser has been a big-name politician in Wisconsin for a long time. Kloppenburg was a relatively small fish.

Kloppenburg did not do as well as Prosser in the primary.

Prosser is an incumbent, and many people vote for incumbents if they don't really know much about the race.

So, if Kloppenburg even holds her own, whether the recount affirms her victory or not, this is a big, big win for labor.

How do you feel today? You must've stayed up until the wee hours of the morning on this nail-biter. Has the Koch Party announced its desire for a recount yet? Or do they accept the results prnding the counting of any hand-written votes?

14. Good
There is not an automatic recount and the Rebubs will challenge as would have the Dems if it went the other way.

The "Liberal" media wont call a winner though, they'll say too close to call for the duration even though Kloppenburg will have won the elctio pending a recount. If Prosser would have won the headlines would have read "Prosser WINS, Democrats may sue".

If the difference in votes is less than .5% (it currently stands at .02%), the recount is free - in other words, paid for by the taxpayers.

We should really nail that talking point - the Republicans claim they want budget cuts, but will force a recount paid for by the taxpayers.

49. Thats not the point
Of COURSE we would ask for a recount, we're the party of fair elections and supporting the average worker, employed or unemployed! But the Republicans want your cake, and they want to eat it too!

The problem is not the recount, the problem is that Republicans only care about slashing spending that affects YOU. Cut costs that affect them? Not a chance.

They'll be happy to spend anything and everything on staying in power, and on denying you and your family the right to bargain for a fair wage.

THAT'S a good talking point.

26. HUGE win!
I don't care what anyone says about this being close... Kloppenburg made up a 30+ point deficit in a matter of weeks against an incumbent with over 30 years experience in WI politics. I don't think Kloppenburg has ever run for elective office.

This is a big victory.

I think It Is safe to say she just barely edged out Prosser by about 200 votes. There will likely be a recount but seledom do recounts help Republicans. Most of the time they help Democrats.

Also remember a Democrat won Walker's old County Executive job.

This Is also a result of Walker's antiUnion crusade.Otherwise Prosser would have easily won reelection.
