Female Christian / Male Jew?

All this discussion and debate over the '12 election reminded me of a conversation I had with the husband.

Do you think Conservatives/Republicans/Teapers would elect a Jewish president or a Female president first?

Remove the fact that most women and Jews are Democrats for a minute and think like a Conservative.

My husband and I agreed on female. If you look at the high profile Con women, they all seem less than intellectual and probably easily led and manipulated which would make them perfect for the position (see Bush II). Even though "good Christians" embrace their Jewish cousins, I doubt that they'd ebrace them enough to let them run the country.

I thought for awhile that Elizabeth Dole would run at some point but that time has passed.

I think that in the US the we're more likely to elect a gay, black, female Christain before we elect a while, male Atheist.

That's what's so screwy about this debate. Even if the Male Jew was more qualified, more intelligent and just all around better...he's still Jewish.

10. I'm not sure it would matter all that much

If you controlled for policy positions/experience/personal history I'd say it would be pretty close. I'm sure the average Republican voter would prefer either to whomever the other side was running.

Maybe I'd give a slight edge to the Christian to account for the 'Jews rule the world' nutjobs. But I'll bet that many people who believe that deeply enough for it to determine their vote are beyond the two-party system anyway. If you believe that kind of thing, you're probably susceptible to various other fringe conspiracy theories as well.
