The Rude Pundit: Democrats in Congress on Paul Ryan Budget: "Aw, C'mon"
If you're a Democrat in Congress, yeah, you're probably appalled by Rep. Paul Ryan's savage budget proposal (or you oughta be). But in your gut, there's gotta be this little acid burn, this ember of envy, that, with the support of his leadership, Ryan just went balls out for the shit that Republicans believe in. Because you know what would have happened if the situation was reversed.

If a Democrat had proposed a budget that radically cut the military, raised the top tax rate by nearly a third, ended all the wars, created a national health care system through a new payroll tax (thus relieving businesses of a huge financial burden), expanded EPA and food safety enforcement, and jacked up discretionary spending on education, scientific research, and more, and still yielded trillions of dollars in long-term savings, and then explained the document by saying, "This isn't a budget. This is a cause," do you think that that Democrat would have been hailed as "courageous" by any Republicans? Do you think that anyone in the media would have taken the thing seriously? Don't be fucking stupid. What would have happened is that most Democrats would have run away like beaten bitches afraid of Rush Limbaugh's switch, Republicans would have called it "un-American" and "the mostest radicalest budget that anyone has ever put out in the history of forever" and taken the word "cause" to mean "Marxist rape of your children," and Fox "news" would gone to TardCon 5 in demonizing everything: "Do you want the government telling you what diseases you can have? Do you want Barack Obama to decide how much shit should be on your chicken?"

Paul Ryan's budget is not a serious document. It is, instead, a few pages of dried ejaculate on paper. It is a wishlist out of every conservative wet dream, and, as such, it is ballsy just how brazen it is. If nothing else, you can't say in the future that Republicans didn't warn us. Ryan's plan, his "Road Map," sets the bar so low that it pretty much guarantees that Democrats will be negotiating away many of the programs they worked on for decades and then declare victory because they didn't give in to everything Republicans wanted.

A decent comparison would be to imagine that you have grown a beautiful apple tree, but your neighbor wants it down so he can see the factory on the hill better. You say that you can trim the branches. He offers to cut down the tree, burn down your home, and kick you in the nuts. If you're a Democrat, you figure if you can convince your neighbor not to kick you in the nuts, it's a victory. If you're a Republican, you say, "No, I'm still gonna kick you in the nuts." If you're Barack Obama, you offer your ass instead.

Instead of being treated like some brave hero facing the "real" problems in the nation, Paul Ryan should have been burned in effigy across America yesterday.

1. Republicans can line up behind Ryan without fear
Nobody will remember anything about this by Palm Sunday. And anyone who brings it up again after Memorial Day will be accused of wallowing in the past. Within weeks, this lame-brained proposal will have simply disappeared, and Republicans will be back to squealing about how the Democrats are trying to cut Medicare and throw Gramma and Grampa out into the street.

2. This is why I posted this the other night
There comes a time to stand up for our beliefs

When we had all three branches of the government we squandered the opportunity to reverse the damage done by the conservatives by trying to play nice with conservatives who would just as easily slit our throats as return the gesture.

Maybe what our party needs is a "come to Jesus" moment, where what passes for leadership in our party begins to recognize that the other side is out to kill all the good left in our country, and the Democratic party would become obsolete if they win.

What our party needs is unification, a recognition that we have to stop trying a bipartisan approach in dealing with an opposition that never quits.

Its like our party is the modern equivalent to Neville Chamberlain, and the GOP is planning for world domination.

Our party had better wake up to the enemy were facing, before its too late to save our country.

but, please..

"..most Democrats would have run away like beaten bitches afraid of Rush Limbaugh's switch..",

"beaten bitches"??

Is that what you call abused women?

Ugly..ugly and abusive in itself.

I doubt, that (whatever the rude one said) you

would have posted anything like "flailed fags" or something.

41. Why don't you ask him?
A lot of women- probably most- don't freak out over the "B" word, just like most men don't get upset when Sean Hannity is called "a dick". It's a small, vocal minority that has a temper tantrum over that particular word- most people don't care.

and "rude references" to certain acts doesn't come

close to the casual denigration of "bitches"

whose abuse should be used as humor.

A woman is beaten in this country alone every eighteen seconds.

36. So, your actual agenda is to drive discussion away from the fundamental point?
There is no treatment of human females, it is allegory and it is clearly such.

We really do have bigger fish to fry than getting someone called "Rude" to use gender neutral language in his allegory.

If you refuse to discuss the larger point then I see this harping to be a fig leaf to cover for your distractions and support of the status quo.

46. So...let me ask you a question.
Exactly what is your position on the current war being waged to destroy what little is left of the social programs in the US meant to help everybody? Are you going to remain mute if Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps, and other programs are gutted or destroyed? Because it seems to me that women would be some of the worst hit if many of these programs are simply destroyed.

My position is that it Sucks Utterly.

The physical abuse of women -- yeah, one beaten every 15 seconds in the US alone

is still a problem -- even if you big time progressive guys are a LOT less

comfortable talking about it or sympathizing with it.

53. See, here's my bone to pick.
Ostensibly, nobody here obviously supports the practice of routinely beating on spouses or women in general, yet on the same token, there is conflict between you and everybody here over the idiomatic expression being used at all by a pundit who doesn't even post here when it seems to me that everybody here is already on the same page as far as abuse of women go: We do not support it. So why is the conflict here and not between you and the Rude Pundit through email? Unless, you are actually confronting that person through email right now? Instead of taking over someone else's thread to get your message across?

57. Let me say first, that i appreciate your approaching me and the issue with respect
It's more than anyone else has done, so thank you.

You mention that there is a conflict between me and "everybody here over

the idiomatic expression being used" by the Rude Pundit who doesn't even post here.

I get your point, at least in part, but you may have noticed that

"everybody else" who has disagreed with me is male. I think that

is worth noting even if it is not the entire answer.

My complaint was that the RP's quote was posted, and I did allude to that

in my first or second post.

I would imagine that most here don't actually "sanction" abuse of women

but I, and many others, find it very hurtful and disrespectful

to see the idea of it so flippantly used as humor.

With that, I see a BIG distinction in the sensitivity level toward the abuse

of women and the abuse of other groups...As I mentioned,

should the pundit make references to Beating Fags or "whooping niggers"

r something, the response here would be VERY different and I think

we can probably agree on that.

You know exactly what I'm talking about, too.

Beyond that, the words aren't necessarily equivalent- not everyone agrees that they're equivalent- one could just as easily say the equivalent of "bitch" is "dick" or "prick" or "asshole". And no, I don't think hurtful words- even when they are really hurtful- are to be compared, correlated, or otherwise confused with physical abuse.

So, it is obvious that you have extreme positions about language. How do you feel about classic works of literature? What about depictions of women in art? Do you go to museums and rant and rave about the depictions of women in works of art?

Lastly, some folks are exactly as described.

Paul Ryan is insane but the dude has serious guts, he just single-handedly moved the entire narrative in this country so far to the right its gonna take us years to bring it back even to the center. He is literally making medicare privatization into a reasonable sounding idea and the media is going along with it.

Obama and the democrats are allowing Ryan and the republicans to control the debate and they just keep dragging it further and further to the right because they know Obama and the dems will just go along with it. Its insane and fucking pathetic.

45. don't you think it was their grand master plan in the first place?
Little Boot's did so much damage to this country in eight years-allowed his "base" to have a field day-deregulation, especially wall street, and then there's the no bid contracts for war--he privatized part of the military, billions unaccounted for in Iraq and we paid top tax payer dollars so that these war profiteering corporations could give our soldiers shitty services and contaminated water while exposing some to harmful toxic fumes. These corrupt greedy repukes want to privatize the shite out of everything that is public, but what the clueless don't know is that it's going to cost us more for shitty services, and since corporations big thing is to make a profit, they'll probably be paying shitty wages to their employees while giving us shitty service, which we won't be able to bitch to know one about. Because we will no longer have representation when it comes to these corporations providing services. And just like what happened in PA, we'll probably have even more corruption-corrupt officials, to throw more people in prison for profit or falsely judge people to make a profit.

To me, this whole scenario has been an orchestrated event--allowing corporations to gain more power and influence over citizens and "drowning government in a bathtub." Drown government (we the people) so that corporations rule the land (and they don't have to be american corporations).

With the help of a very complicit media and the RW hate spewing talking heads, they've had over twenty years to "brainwash" a gullible public to go against their own interests. Let's see how many americans wake up before it's too late. I'd say they're waking up where these autocratic governors are making one fell swoop power grabs.

That is the real danger. Democrats shouldn't assume swing voters will be on their side. Democrats need to spell out in great detail what Ryan's proposal will mean for them when they retire and try to get medical insurance. We need to get down to brass tacks, dollars and cents. Prove to Americans that Ryan's proposal will mean poverty and bankruptcy for millions of retirees.
