Horizon Air sorry for kicking tall man off flight

Carrier said it should have asked passengers in exit or bulkhead row to give up seat

How tall is a 6-foot, 9-inch man? Too tall to sit in a coach-class seat on Horizon Air, apparently.

On a mid-March flight between Portland, Ore., and Ontario, Calif., flight attendants removed a 6-foot, 9-inch-tall gentleman from a plane because his legs were blocking the aisle.

To complain, the man's daughter contacted The Consumerist blog.

The airline soon apologized to the passenger. A spokesperson said:

1. The flight attendants should ask for volunteers to give up one

of those seats. If nobody volunteers, they should select one and make them move. They have that power. They can put you in any seat they wish, if circumstance or safety warrant that decision. This was one of those circumstances. Bad decision.

4. I should have added that I'd be the first to volunteer. I'm about

6' tall (despite the shrinkage common to 65 year olds). I can sit in a standard coach seat. So, if I were in an exit row or bulkhead seat, I'd have stepped up even without being asked should such a situation occur. I've done it in the past, and would do it any time. If I can't sit for four or five hours in a coach seat, I'm too damned old to fly.
