$300 million FCC broadband availability map available- and is incorrect.
Remember all the hype about Telecos asking for extra fees to provide faster broadband?

"A new FCC report and database describe broadband availability and speeds by Zip Code.

Bruce Kushnick put in his Zip, and found that just about all the important information in it was incorrect.

"......the new FCC broadband database search engine to tell me all of the competitive very fast broadband services available to me.
The database reportedly cost $300 million to build, a little less than $3 a household.
So I thought I’d check it out to see how it compares to reality when I look for residential broadband services

"As I go through the process words like “deceit” and “flim-flam” come to mind.
The database for my Zip Code is incorrect, way off.
What the FCC’s Internet Acccess report really shows is that the U.S. has plenty of hype but not much to back it up.
If hype were broadband, America would be No. 1."

Now for the fun part....go to the FCC map site,( below) put in your address ( I think just zip code will work)
and see what pops up for
"all of the competitive very fast broadband services available"

http://www.broadbandmap.gov/

And, under the FCC Gov map info, they ask YOU to send THEM any information that they do not have.

So, who got the $300 million contract, I wonder?

2. They got it exactly right for my address, except that
they missed the 12 unprotected wireless connections in my neighborhood. Free broadband for everyone! My notebook computer goes crazy every time I look at the available connection list. Every day, there are real estate people on my street, sitting in their cars with their laptops open, borrowing wireless from someone in the neighborhood. Could be mine. Could be any of my neighbors.

8. Why would I do that? I don't download illegal intellectual property
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 06:41 PM by MineralMan
anywhere. As a creator of such property, that would be a terrible thing to do. I don't use other's wireless services, either, I have my own, which I pay for. I'm an ethical kind of guy. Most Democrats and progressives are. The ones who aren't have my disdain. Any other questions or observations?

3. It's accurate for my zip code.
But it's nothing I didn't already know.

4. That's certainly true. They all advertise constantly here in Saint Paul.
How would you not know?

6. I think that may have been the point of the article...
nothing available.

No fast broadband available in my area either.
