2. you can't link to a picture unless it's posted online somewhere....
like photobucket or someone else's website, or flickr (I think).

How to link in pictures without stealing bandwidth! by Ben
Burch

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=339904

This works for most pictures.

Say you have a picture you want to use in a posting;

http://foobar.com/JulieNewmar.jpg

Now, if you just link it to your LJ posting, you immediately
start stealing bandwidth from foobar.com.

This is simply not a nice thing to do as some websites pay
for every byte they transfer.

If you change that URL a little;

http://foobar.com.nyud.net:8090/JulieNewmar.jpg

It then uses a free public caching service. It gets fetched
ONCE from foobar.com, and they are not made bankrupt as each
of LJ's horny guys look at your Catwoman picture.

It helps to preview the posting before you hit post as this
gets the caching service to do the initial fetch of the
picture, which can be slow, before your posting appears to
the public. Sometimes you need to wait a few minutes and
re-preview it before everything will appear as it should, and
some web servers will not play ball with the cache, and this
is how you weed those out.

ENJOY!

5. Little Star, thank you for asking this question.
I too, have never been able to post any kind of picture on a blog. I'm not sure any of the answers to your post will work for me though. I have a Mac, and apparently it works differently with pictures. If I wasn't so lazy I would go to Mac help and find out. Can anyone who knows the answer for a Mac help me out? I set up a membership to Photobucket which was supposed to be a way to do it. But I still coudn't make the transfer to Photobucket from my IPhoto Library. I did finally manage to transfer an Avatar found online to another place I blog, but it had a special place on my account page to place it. I cannot put a photo into a posting on that same site.:shrug: :-(

7. Your mac does not "work differently" with pictures.

Sorry if someone has told you that, it is not true.

This is how I upload photos to photobucket.

First, make a new folder in your documents folder called "Pictures for Photobucket"

-----

In iPhoto, find the picture you want to upload and select it by clicking on it. You will know it is selected because it will have a yellow border around it.

Go to the "file menu" in iPhoto and select "Export"

A dialog box will open up where you can specify what "Kind" of file you want ( pick "JPEG"), and you can choose whether you want it to be the same "Size" as your original picture or smaller. Pick whatever you would like!

When you are happy with the settings hit the "Export Button".

You will then be asked where you want to save the picture. So you will save it to your "Pictures for Photobucket" folder, giving it a name you will remember.

----

Now go to your internet browser and log in to your photobucket account.

Click on the "Upload Now" button.

Photobucket will open a new page, where you will see a "Select Photos and Videos Button"

When you click that button a standard file window will open. Navigate to your "Pictures for Photobucket" folder and choose the picture you want to upload.

Photobucket will work its magic, and it will generate some links you can use in internet posts.

=====

Hope this helps.

15. Another question if you don't mind:
If I want to use an image found on the internet, would I go through the same process: moving it (by what process, since there would not be an "export" button,) into a photo folder, then to photobucket, then Export to blog site, or wherever?
