FORBES: Walker & GOP "Lost-& Lost Big" In Wisconsin
Scott Walker’s Election Nightmare in Wisconsin
Apr. 6 2011 - 4:00 pm

..............

But from the perspective of what this election means to Walker and friends going forward, it no longer really matters who wins the race as Governor Walker and the GOP controlled state legislature have clearly lost-and lost big.

While we can expect Gov. Walker to use the election result to pretend that roughly 50% of the state’s voters support his policies, the governor knows all too well that this is a false message – just as he knows that he faces a very significant problem.

Remember, Judge Prosser won his last election with over 99% of the vote. In this election, he not only lost a full 50% of that voter base, it would appear that he has lost his seat on the bench. Considering that he was involved in no scandal or other event that could explain such a remarkable reversal of fortune, I suspect we would have to search long and wide to find another election in our history with a similar result. Should Prosser ultimately prevail in the recount, there is still no getting around the fact that he’s taken an historic tumble in voter support.

I think it is, therefore, safe to say that the Democratic base has been ignited in the State of Wisconsin.

8. This is going to shut a lot of pie holes, and change a few tunes too
because they know they incited it, and the backlash will cometh like a tsunami if they keep it up.

11. To not only stop a juggernault moving full steam ahead dead in its
tracks bam!, but push it back, I have never seen it in my lifetime. This was a colossal feat. Remember, the juggernault had the media, politicians, oligarchs, and bags and bags of money. They were stopped by people that actually work for a living.

16. I'm pleased to see the Superior shift.
Some of my family comes from Duluth across from Superior in MN, and I struck by how the Scandinavian-heavy electorate went way to the right in 2010. I think it's a blip, with the shift back here, concentrated where it is. There may be some reactionary sentiment there, but the pro-working class sentiment runs deep.

3. In one month the Dems were able to energize enough voters to propel a no-name into a contender.
That is impressive.

5. No they didn't
They propelled a no-name into a Supreme Court Justice.

But that whole "fighting for your principles" thing has Democrats inside the Beltway puzzled beyond words. They just don't get how not negotiating away the store and compromising away your position could not have figured more heavily into things. "They were just so, so . . . partisan!"

9. I MEANT AS A CONTENDER FOR THE POSITION FOR WHICH SHE WAS RUNNING.
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 10:14 PM by Luminous Animal
My post was clear. She was not a contender, at all. Not in any way shape or form. And then, through Dem activism, she was.

My post still stands despite your nonsensical nitpicking.

On edit,

This post clarifies:

14. It was sort of a gag
I've seen enough moral victories, and I'm quite happy to celebrate a real one. Being competitive is nice, especially coming out of nowhere. But winning? No substitute.

17. Unconfirmed rumor of Prosser talking to his brother: "I could've been
a contender. I could've been somebody. Instead of a bum...which is what I am."

18. Thanks. It really helps see what happened on the ground where. What is most
interesting is the anomaly in Milwaukee County, running against the trend statewide. It is such an outlier statistically, it merits more analysis.
