Why do so many people complain about MORNING JOE? |
|
I turned on my DU account to read another stack of complaints about what Pat Bushcanan said, or guest Donald Trump siad, or what Joe argues with Mica about, and I have to ask why?
Not, why are you complaining, but why are you watching it in the first place?

5. It's a popular morning show, covering recent issues, and informative at times |
|
And at other times it pisses people off- and when you are mad at a show you know many watch, people like to talk about it.
Think of a message like being a room with lots of other people who can have a casual or serious conversation.

6. there is a sense here that MSNBC is the "liberal/progressive" voice to combat fox |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-07-11 06:38 AM by DrDan
I have no idea where that thought came from - but it permeates the threads each morning. ("How dare MSNBC offer bandwidth to the opposition")
What is funny is that the complaints come daily from the same people. If they don't like it, you would think they would exercise their remote. But, NO. Feels better to complain daily.

12. Well, I do my share of complaining about MJ but you are mistaken if you think I don't |
|
use my remote while watching MJ. I mute whole segments if the guests are just plain impossible. However, sometimes the most awful a'holes get grilled by the more enlightened guests and THAT is fun to watch.
Face it, MJ often has GREAT guests like Howard Dean, Lawrence O'Donnell, Elizabeth Warren (before her appt.), Barbara Boxer, my new senator Dick Blumenthal, my new governor Dan Malloy, and others. Even some of the exchanges among the regulars can be good: today there were several back and forths with Ed Rendell and even Donny Deutsch with Pat Buchanan and rethug Aaron Schock. Some good stuff gets out...

9. In all honesty, it's the most interesting morning program on the air. |
|
At least it is if you're into politics, which I assume most DUers are. Compared to the insipid doggy fashion shows and lightweight crap on Today, the unwatchable bubbleheads on CNN and the obvious problem with Fox, it really is the only thing on in a.m.
Of course, we could watch nothing, but I'm kind of a news junkie, and Morning Joe offers a good blend of actual news, comedy (lots of good late-night clips), interviews, and of course, the politics -- which get infinitely better when Joe isn't on his own show. The only time they lose me is when they do sports.

Where I stay until CNN starts a segment packed with right wing talking points, then I'll jump to MSNBC, until Andrea Greenspan comes on, then usually back to CNN.

It's not like his point of view would be a surprise. I don't bother with this program or many of the other alleged news programs as I find them irritating from either point of view or just too blasted many commercials. It is far easier to pick up what I need on the net or a bit of NPR for headlines and such.
Morning Joe (like a few on DU who seem to be "dictatorial know everything" types) are on my "Ignore" List.

It's corporate propaganda from the GE corporation. Has anyone noticed that every anchor on MSNBC is in favor of our new Libyan war? Do you think that has anything to do with the defense contracting companies that GE owns? Only a massive fool would get their "news" from GE.

26. I think the reason RW media can get bigger audiences is that |
|
moderate and left leaning people will watch this shit, obsess about it, echo it. Echo it as "sarcasm" and tune in again tomorrow. It doesn't work the other way -- RW audience tuning into NPR or TDS. If you go to that site which shall remain nameless see how many threads there are obsessed with what for example 'something Jon Stewart said on TDS last night' or some lefty who was interviewed on NPR. Zero.
So RW media has twice the audience potential of LW media.

33. Not quite. Schultz & O'Donnell don't just show them to fill air time |
|
They provide necessary analysis & sensible commentary along with them that people NEED TO HEAR. Because clips of nutjobs are already shown on the other networks with either no analysis or the complete backasswards commentary, MSNBC *has* to show it to. However, most of the time, hosts like O'Donnell & Schultz show clips that NEVER SEEM TO MAKE IT on the air on the other networks - clips or commentary by Bernie Saunders, etc. We should watch it while we can; shows like that are very rare in the U.S. any more.

29. Its what political junkies do |
|
I define myself as a political junkie.
I turned off Morning Joe more than a year ago. Maybe two years ago. My blood pressure is much improved as a result.
That said, it find it sanctimonious and, frankly, insulting to be told to turn it off. I'm bit enough to make my own choices.
Next is the complaining about it on an innertube message board. And then the complaining about complaining. I find it humorously ironic that the cure for that is the same one that is so sanctimonious offered in the first place: ignore those posts.
If you don't like reading about what Mika said to Pat Buchannan, *skip*the*thread* with the title "Did you just hear what Mika said to Crazy Uncle Pat??????"
These are, almost by definition, lightweight posts. But so is 98% of what you read here. It is, after all, political junkies getting their next fix of political crack.

31. One of the better questions asked here recently. |
|
I just read the thread, and I'd like to let it be known that I do not watch shows featuring Pat Buchanan or David Duke. People here seem to think that Pat is cute and fun. One of the most vicious bigots America has ever known. And here they are, saying 'that Pat, he cracks me up'. They should look up some quotes from Pat, on African Americas, women, gay people or Jews before they get too carried away with the Pat promotion. But I think that is what it is, promotion. They 'complain' to push the show, to push Pat, Joe, and the whole Republican range of issues. Remember, vicious bigots are a laugh riot, amusing and cute! Makes me sick.

36. I like watching Morning Joe. |

Sometimes he can be infuriating, but he has gone against the Party Line on occasion. It's interesting when he does; he gets this...I don't know, this 'look' in his eye like he knows he's about to get into trouble. Mischevious, maybe. But not enough to just toss the party line overboard all the time. Mika, OTOH, is often somewhat to rather liberal (although when she starts sucking the Republican fumes it's a sight of cognitive dissonance that makes my head spin).
Given the choices, I'm most likely to get ~some~ form of balance on Morning Joe than any other station. I'd rather there be something more in line with not only my beliefs but also reality, but I don't think I'll see that on Comcast Cable anytime soon. So I'll take what I can get -- I'm usually about to head to bed by then anyway, so if they're droning on I can tune them out and POOF -- out like a light bulb. :)
