New law bans images on adult business billboards. One club is suing.
DETROIT -- A new Michigan law, that restricts adult oriented signs from showing graphic photos, has sparked controversy. One strip club is even suing over the issue.

Last Wednesday the legislation, that was pushed by Senator Tupac A. Hunter, took effect. It forces adult entertainment or sexually oriented businesses from putting questionable images on signs that were visible from the outside of the establishment.

According to the new laws, those types of businesses are now only allowed to have words, numbers, and trademarks on the signs. If a company violates those rules, it could be fined up to $10,000.

Now, The Penthouse Club is suing. According to the Associated Press, the Detroit area club says the law violates the club’s freedom of expression.

How about if they just ban the words and leave the pics?

3. Agreed
I would love to see just that happen across the country and it would solve this legislator's of message purity. Beyond that I would be willing to bet you could do more with the image of the young lady by just showing her face & eyes getting past the "purity issue" with some different photo editing.

Or if that is possible. Certainly DUers who are more tech savvy than I could answer this question for us though

7. Good for the Penthouse Club.
Its a clear infringement on free speech rights.

I got no trouble with getting rid of billboards. But I do have problems with regulating what you can say on them.

12. GOOD! My old school, for sexually abused kids had a porn store open
across the street and they put up similar billboards (MUCH smuttier, actually, one man in underwear, a girl in panties and her hand over her breasts) facing our school. Great...here we are trying to help K-6 kids who have been sexually abused and looming over the school is a big billboard selling sex.

It made me sick.

16. Seriously? A porn shop opened across from a school for sexually abused kids?!
Your city has a serious zoning problem.

23. It's a violation of Truth in Advertising
Hint: The woman on the sign is NOT working at the club.
