MONTGOMERY -- The Alabama House this morning shouted down a proposed resolution that would have rolled back legislative pay by 15 percent until Sept. 30.
The House refused to consider a resolution offered by Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, that would have tracked the 15 percent cut imposed by Gov. Robert Bentley on the General Fund budget for the rest of this fiscal year.
Holmes failed to get enough support for an immediate roll call vote on his resolution, meaning it was sent to the House Rules Committee. He said he didn't expect the resolution to ever be reported to the House from that committee.
Holmes said it was only fair that legislators take a temporary pay cut because state employees are being laid off under the proration of the General Fund budget imposed last week.
But House members overwhelmingly roared a voice "no" vote on the resolution.
