House passes measure to keep government open one more week
House passes measure to keep government open one more week

Los Angeles Times | April 7, 2011 | 11:44 a.m.

Despite a veto threat from President Obama, the House of Representatives passed a spending measure today that would cut billions from the budget, fund the government an additional week and fund the Department of Defense through September.

Though there is broad agreement on the terms of the defense authorization bill, Democrats object to $12 billion in budget cuts that the measure calls for in the seven-day extension of funding for other areas of the government. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) called instead for a one-week extension at existing spending levels.

The House vote on the GOP proposal passed 247-181, largely along party lines.

4. So there were at least a dozen Democrats that crossed party lines
or at least failed to vote against it?

5. I'm at the point where a government shutdown
would be preferable to all of the hysteria, partisan politics and crap.

That's not to say I want one. All of these goons in DC are playing with fire.

Republicans have shown their true, ugly colors.
