In U.S., 1 in 4 Adults Have Government Health Insurance
Source: Gallup
By Elizabeth Mendes

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- As House Republicans put forth a budget proposal that seeks to reshape the government-run healthcare programs Medicare and Medicaid, Gallup finds that 1 in 4 U.S. adults, including at least 1 in 10 American adults across all age groups, benefit from one of these programs or military/veterans' benefits. Seniors and young adults are the most likely to report having government-based health insurance.

Gallup has documented an increase in government-supplied health coverage and decrease in employer-based insurance since the 2008 economic collapse. In the first three months of 2011, 25.7% of all Americans said they have government health insurance. This is about the same as the 25.3% in 2010, but up from 24.6% in 2009 and 23.4% in 2008.

These data, collected as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, reveal that government health insurance has increased among all age groups -- not just seniors -- which suggests the rise in the government rolls is tied more to joblessness than aging baby boomers.

1. Maybe this needs
to be updated. Am about to lose my coverage along with thousands of others in WA state due to budget cuts. The year 2011 will go down as a masssacre.

2. I stopped reading at "Source: Gallup"
Gallup is another discredited org. of fraud. There are a lot of posts today that say "CNN said this", "NBC said that", "Gallop says this", "a republican said that": they're all proven habitual liars. It's literally insane to expect something different from people and orgs that do the same thing over and over.

3. Heck, Maine is running at least 50% between Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA alone. nt
