Poll question: Will Obama Cave Again? |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-07-11 04:24 PM by Jack_Dawson
Looks like Dems have agreed to compromise on the opponents' 15 yard line again, and meekly threaten a veto. I don't think Obama has it in him to actually veto "pay for troops" or however Fox spins it. Why doesn't he just grab the mike and say "Look, the Republican plan is a joke...they want to take away your medicare" and call it a day?
Hoping for a show of strength...

2. What compromise are you referring to? |
|
He's threatening a veto and you're upset? Do you think he's going to fold on defunding his own health care law? I can't imagine him actually agreeing to defund Title X for abortion providers (which amounts to nearly all women's clinics, including Planned Parenthood) either. Stupid policy riders.

43. As to his own healthcare plan, he caved on everything in it that mattered |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 04:01 AM by Ken Burch
The only thing that was left was trivial, incremental nothingness. There was no victory in that at all. It wouldn't even have helped his mother, due to the implementation delays he built in. Face it, what passed was worse than losing. No bill that watered-down and castrated can be of any value at all.
The result of healthcare proved that this administration is willing to settle for "victory in name"-even though tiny gains like that bill can't be built on in the future at all, because there was no foundation built in it.
Same with the financial nothingness bill.
And the worst thing of all is that he didn't even say, at the bill's signing, anything remotely like "The fight to fix this starts TOMORROW!" We were just expected to settle for the crumbs and be happy.

14. And how many lives are affected if he caves? |
|
The Republicans would cave in a few weeks. They don't have what it takes to be "tough" as you put it for very long. It's been so long they'd probably wet themselves.
Caving, however, will have very real consequences for an awful lot of people for potentially generations (I'm thinking Planned Parenthood cuts and changing EPA regs). Either choice is awful, but there's only one morally defensible one as far as I can tell.

This time they've gone too far. I don't think he can afford to cave on this. The Nation can't afford for him to. I think he will stand his ground.
If I'm wrong... I'm going to be depressed beyond my ability to describe.
Don't give in Mr. President. Please don't give in.

37. He has already proudly announced he's caved on 78% of the cost issues |
|
So what's that mean, no federal funding for NPR? How about the EPA? How about Medicaid? We don't even know how much he's already given up, just that its over three quarters of what the Republicans demanded.

42. He has never NOT caved. |
|
The whole time he's been in, he's never gone to the wall for anything or taken any risks at all for anything. And his apologists here think we're obligated to accept all of it without question just to prove we're not "giving ammunition" to the Right.
