The U.S. may consider sending troops into Libya...
I thought boots on the ground was off the table?

AJDABIYAH, Libya — The U.S. may consider sending troops into Libya with a possible international ground force that could aid the rebels, the former U.S. commander of the military mission said Thursday, describing the ongoing operation as a stalemate that is more likely to go on now that America has handed control to NATO.

3. Was there ever any doubt? Once Wolfowitz, Krystol and Elliot
Abrams and the rest of the PNAC gang popped up supporting the 'rebels', anyone who continued to think this was what it appeared to be, was being willfully blind.

If they do this, I hope there will be the biggest opposition movement ever in this country. But, there probably won't be and they will probably will do it. We always have money for war.

10. How is it "may consider" ? Clearly they HAVE considered it
so what they are really saying is: U.S. may send troops to Libya. Which probably means they are about to send them.

Not surprising bc if they want a win they will have to do it for the rebels. Or if they want a stalemate they will have to keep the rebels going.

11. The language was interesting
Paraphrasing: We're kicking around the idea of thinking about maybe looking into the possibility of considering boots on the ground. All they have to do now is see if that trial balloon sticks to the wall (mixing my metaphors) and sell it to the American people. Or just do it anyway.

16. Exactly
I thought my idea for a contest to name the first US base in Libya was a good one.

We only have one vote so far: Wheelus, which was an excellent choice

"Wheelus Air Base was a United States Air Force base located in Libya. Today the facility is known as Mitiga International Airport.

Oil was discovered in Libya in 1959, and what had been one of the world's poorest countries became extremely wealthy. The United States enjoyed a generally warm relationship with Libya and pursued policies centered on interests in operations at Wheelus Air Base and the considerable U.S. oil interests.

In September 1969 King Idris I was overthrown by Muammar al-Gaddafi. Gaddafi demanded that Wheelus, which he saw as a vestige of European colonialism, be closed and its facilities turned over to the Libyan government.

While the U.S. wished to retain Wheelus Air Base, the strategic value of the facility had declined with the development of nuclear missiles that had effectively replaced many bomber bases. Indeed, Wheelus had primarily served as a tactical fighter training facility in the 1960s...

It's already there, it was ours and it can be again! USA USA USA. However, it's not in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrenaica">Cyrenaica, so there's that.

12. 'American credibility is now on the line.'
For Bill Kristol and any PNAC'er with access to a live mic this is going to be the message once boots hit the ground.

We need to stop right now.

13. We already have CIA and mercenaries. The Brits have their special forces there too.
I'm pretty sure we already have US special forces there. This is just the next short step and entirely unsurprising. Maddening but not surprising.

Trial balloon has just been sent up on a day when everyone is focused on the budget... how conveeeeenient....
