12. Way back in late October of '83...

...my band and I were involved in organizing a "Rock Against Reagan" rally at the Federal Building on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles.

The national organizers were the New York Yippies who traveled across the country to different cities in a school bus and big box truck (carrying a PA system and the equipment for the band Stick Against Stone).

The whole group, around 15-20 people, stayed about a week at my art studio in Pasadena.

They were a mix of "traditional hippies" and east coast punk rockers, so, needless to say, it was a very interesting week. Especially when they argued about their daily "gruel" allotments, I felt kinda bad about that.

The actual event was great, despite some unusual circumstances (not so great weather, a non-permitted pro-dead-Shah-of-Iran group of crazy motherfuckers, along with some other weird non-permitted right wing psychos, I think they were a pro-contra group, and SWAT teams in the surrounding hi-rise buildings).

Our rally was carried out with all of the legal permits required, we were working with California Marijuana Initiative, with whom we had, the previous July 3-4, done a Smoke-in at the same location.

Besides Stick Against Stone, and my band, The Hundredth Monkey, along with a couple others I can't recall now, we also booked The Minutemen, and they were phenomenal.
