why he withdrew is another question!?

10. Right, because the other corporatists running in 2008 would have been far better. |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 01:24 PM by HughBeaumont
Other than the tax cut cave, I have no buyer's remorse. My vote was cast strictly to keep this nation from becoming The United Church of America. Anyone who still insists Hillary would have been better than Obama on economic policy wasn't and isn't really paying attention.
Our systems, governmental, cultural and economic, are broken from the top down. Our problems are far too complex to blame on one single guy and the remedies for those problems will take years to implement (and will possibly require a die-off of people who think and operate like the Koch brothers).
With a Republican running things, you have absolutely no chance at all of that happening. The best part about the Paul Ryans and Rand Pauls of the world is that they're young and instantly comedic thanks to history. New ideas have to take hold. Reaganomics is a dead issue.
One general area to start is elections. Separate money, and most importantly, media influence from the process and we're better off already.
ETA: AGAIN with the Birkenstocks and skullet!! COME on, cartoonists.

15. We were going to get universal health care? |
|
When was THAT ever going to happen, short of Humana, Blue Cross, Travelers, Cigna, Wellpoint, etc. blowing to smithereens or disappearing? This isn't Europe you live in. Corporate influence is far too entrenched in our broken system to allow that to happen. You'd need people by the millions in the streets and in boardrooms to get any notion of that going, not elections.
Yes I care about the torture camps still existing. I don't really feel I have to mention that to make it known.
And the military . . . sorry to say, is the military. This nation is too addicted to not fight and no president . . . . sad as it is, no government PERIOD is going to stop that addiction. Millions in the streets can't even stop the war machine at this point. Nobody even brings it up when talking about budgets, fiscal responsibility, etc. Looking back on history, it was mentioned that between our conflicts with foreign nations, each other, Native Americans, etc, it's estimated that the United States has spent a total of ONE year out of military conflict of some kind since the late 1700s. I wonder if that's true. Wouldn't doubt that it is.
The point is who in 2008 realistically had a chance to make all of what we wanted happen? I'm depressed to no END that we're likely never going to get a progressive president. I just don't know why anyone believed either Democratic candidate was progressive to begin with, like we were so taken and HAD. I wasn't "had" at all and anyone who was paying attention shouldn't have been either.
I vote "The Alternative is Far More Nightmarish". Wisconsin, Ohio and other states proves this.

23. The problem is that whatever we are voting against will be our party's position in a short time. |
|
I'd also say that while I detest theocracy, fascism is no better and arguably worst so your line is of no essential benefit to me. Plus, after a few cycles of unconditional surrender that line will blur as well in some "desperate" compromise.
Your words do nothing for me but foster and acceptance that nothing will get any better till the "sensible centrists" and "pragmatic progressives" have nothing to lose and no more hope in the status quo. They will have to be deprived of economic security and overrun by crazies in order to give up their faith in trickle down and all the bullshit they mostly subscribe to.
Most importantly, if our votes have been reduced to holding back theocracy then our votes already have ceased to matter and there will be theocracy if those calling the shots desire regardless of who is elected. It is hard to argue things are utterly out of control of the people but we will be listened to in the fundamental structure of society and the basis of our laws.

You don't get anything about me.
And, if I want to hyperbolize, I'll hyperbolize as much as I want whether you like it or not.
Finally, I'd like you to explain this comment: "But I get what you want it to look like." What is that supposed to mean? And I also want to know where you get what I want it to look like.

32. This will bother the self appointeds, but his entire campaign staff |
|
should meditate on that cartoon it contains the poetic truth of the problems they face in this campaign. Puts it well. Painfully well. But knowledge of the facts is how you win. A good time to point out that while many people pay a great deal of money in order to get the criticism of others, there is no one who pays to hear their praises sung. This is how we know the comparative value of criticism and praise.

38. I really don't get the hostility to Obama. |
|
I wish he was more left, but at least in my opinion, he is more left than any president since LBJ. I also was never under the impression that he was all that left to start with, so he is doing pretty much what I expected him to do. The one exception to that is that he is much more lenient with big business than I thought he would be. Overall all though, I'd take him over Carter or Clinton.

41. It's a sad day when a Cartoon elicits the "Doom & Gloom" of some here on DU..mostly fine fellows. |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 05:13 PM by KoKo
We have lost any sense of humor about our Democratic Party...we are in danger of becoming Doctrinaire like the Freepers who never see the humor in their people...only that they are AGENTS OF GOD..to them. Their GOD is not the GOD of the rest of us. Their GOD is some kind of "Revelations, End Times, Doom person who "smites women with his sword" when he isn't portraying them as "whores of Babylon." They are Old Testament "Thunder Gods"..."Manly Men" while the "women bake bread and subject themselves to their "providers."
Doctrinaire Religion wherever it Flourishes always leads to Death, Destruction and MORE WAR.
With Arts and Theater and Cartoons and all kinds of Creative Expression....cultures FLOURISH AND GROW.
In America, now we have a President who seems humorless to an American People who are humorless (rightly so..given what's been done to them) and so even a cartoon posted to "break the tension" is attacked as some kind of travesty against "sensibilities" of some who "wish to rule it all."
Sad times, indeed. Humorless...times...lacking in creativity of expression.
Creativity in the end will always rule, though. Creativity is what breaks us FREE! Whenever a civilization or society exiles it's creatives it is doomed.
Thanks for this KPete.......! It was quite funny...for a "rueful laugh." Most "Internet Folks" probably need to look up "rueful." LOL's! :D
