Well, now we know who is responsible for the upcoming government shutdown, and why. |
|
They won't be able to deny it, or blame anyone else. This is really 1994 writ large -- and these idiots are proud of themselves! Stalling the budget over defunding Planned Parenthood? :wtf: They are out to lose every female vote in the country, I guess. At nearly 53, I must say I have never, even in the aforementioned 1994, seen anything like this. I am just flabbergasted at the sheer stupidity of this. Fellow "classics," what say you?

1. I imagine a lot of Repub voters don't use PP. It's low-hanging fruit and |
|
a moral victory for them.

8. we need to make people understand it not just PP, it's ALL Title X funding.... |
|
which includes clinics, hospitals, community health centers, university health centers and public and private nonprofit agencies including Planned Parenthood
It's just easier (and more palatable to the public, they think) to scapegoat PP because they are the "face" of lower income or uninsured women (i.e., slutty welfare queens)

11. Sure. Planned Parenthood only receives 25% of those Title X funds. |
|
And this is now the only rider (out of 60+) that the republicans will not move on.

5. Frankly, as painful as it will be personally for many |
|
I hope they do shut it down. The political pain will be overwhelming. It will also illustrate just how broken our government truly has become. You elect people that don't think government works, force it to stop working and break it, then you see the end result.
I'm at the point where I'd rather just rip the band-aid off, feel the pain, rather than peel it off slowly. You need to realize that this is the endgame idea, and we might as well let it all come to a head. If you keep letting it fester and slowly chip away at the foundation, it will become more insidious. Let's blow the shit up and create it anew before it becomes so decayed that none of us have the will or the means to even build it again.

The government shut down and not paying people is exactly what they want. It's a test to see how much people will take, so you whittle away further, knowing they will stand a little less.
THAT is ultimately what this is about. They are pushing the middle class into austerity as far as they can, because every inch they gain is a profit margin. It's going to take genuine horror on the part of the people, many of whom are already feeling it, for us to get off of our asses and say enough is enough.

25. my niece is worried about this because her husband is in the army and they |
|
are supposed to be moving in the next couple of weeks i guess. someone replied to her post about how the welfare and unemployed will still get paid. i wanted to respond, but didn't have time that those things are state and have nothing to do with the federal government shutdown.... but i imagine it wouldn't matter. why not throw out something about the lazy welfare recipients and unemployed.

6. Yeah, but who will get the blame? |
|
And no, they won't lose every female vote. I know one woman who votes Repub just because of the abortion issue. She can't look beyond that, even though her taxes do not go to pay for that, or the fact that every single one of her children and grandchildren receive welfare that her party wants to cut.
She isn't the only ignorant female in this country, even though I wish she was.

16. I honestly don't care anymore about blame |
|
because both sides are complicit - Republicans for suggesting it in the first place, and Democrats for not even daring to fight for anything better because their corporate donors might get angry.
Blame is irrelevant.

19. What happened to my country??? |
|
At age 71, I can honestly ask this question. My belief is that the seeds of the negative change began with Reagan when he courted the evangelical vote.

22. Yeah, it started with Reagan... |
|
rolling layoffs, office in DC to assist corporations in moving offshore, cutting vital benefits and so much more. Until Reagan we were a fairly unified country...just mostly normal people living normal lives. We are now really divided and the country is a shambles.
