Is the Post Office going to continue to operate if there's a |
|
shutdown of the Fed. Gov't? I've heard about a lot of different agencies but nothing about the PO.

2. I believe that the post office is owned but not operated by |
|
the government, so I believe that the mail would still be delivered.

Nixon signed the Postal Reorganization Act that made it independent of the government.

5. And your questions makes a very valid point. |

I like to think that most frequenters of DU are somewhat more informed than the great unwashed masses, so when someone here is honestly unaware that the Post Office has been privately funded for about forty years, that's probably just the tip of the iceberg about what most people don't know about how the government works.
I'm NOT trying to make fun of you for not knowing, or anything like that. But if you, a DU member wasn't sure of this -- and I'm hoping you're someone who tries to be reasonably well informed -- just imagine what the deliberately ignorant are thinking!

What is your source? Because it contradicts what other posters are saying and what Google says.

They are, according to their flyer "An independent agency of the Executive branch" - and no, they aren't affected.
