Do Republican women really not see how very anti-women their party is?
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 06:38 PM by RiverStone
Not just women of course, I'd like to think that RepubliCON men would get this too. But tossing aside the neanderthal male wingnuts for a second, how can Repub woman in particular be content with the Teabaggers fucking with their reproductive freedom, access for preventative health care and screening for their daughters and mothers, and services (like birth control education) set up to help PREVENT over half a million unintended pregnancies each year?

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/who-we-are/planned-parenthood-glance-5552.htm

How can these women either quietly standby or actively stand next to the Speaker of the House while he and his backwards colleagues literally rip personal freedom from the bodies of women and smile about it?

On Edit: I have a daughter in her 20's who is asking me how this can happen. What would you say?

11. if you are raised that way
then you really don't see yourself as anti-women. You just see yourself as normal and accepting societal norms. It's the same reason many people raised in cults don't seem to get how horrible they are treated. To them they are normal and you're the crazy freak. Many people clearly have a hard time evaluating themselves and their society objectively.

...several times.

Some attribute it to being raised by equally (hostile) to women parents.

In many ways, this makes sense.

If you are battered or brainwashed into thinking you have little self worth - you become a Rethug woman (or man) that gives praise to the abuser; or become a Tea party fanatic.

7. Selfishness.
They cannot relate to anything that doesn't directly affect them. Most elected republican women are either wealthy enough not to have to concern themselves with having to pay for reproductive health care, or they are past reproductive age, or both. Just mho.

8. There are many women who are anti-women.
There always have been. Remember suffrage, there were many women who did not believe women should vote. Abortion, many women against it. Women's Liberation, Equal Wages, Female priests, again. Get the picture. Some women hate women.

10. Have you never met a woman
who was rabidly anti-abortion and anti-contraception. There are many of them, and that's all about PP that matters to them.

Don't be surprised.

12. It's been out in the open for years but people refuse to see it.
When Rush Limbaugh uses a term like FemiNazi and everyone laughs, well, it pretty much tells the whole story. You can attack feminists and no one will do anything. Because, you know, it's only ugly and bitter women who would be feminists (remember the pictures posted here of Hillary looking wrinkled?)

In the meantime, women's rights have been chiselled at for decades - ever since Roe v. Wade. And here the barbarians are, knocking at our very door, ready to get rid of Planned Parenthood and anything else that deals with women's healthcare issues - and people suddenly notice.

People should have noticed a long time ago. I have women friends in their 20s who have no idea what went on in the 1970s.

Don't forget, the ERA never did pass.

20. they do not believe in feminism. they believe the whole feminism has created every evil today
i don't know how they work this in their mind. i know they put male head of family. i have never been able to intellectually reconcile that. human/human.

they buy into everyone of those patriarchal stories told of the differences in the gender even when cold hard fact, and their own personal lives shows them otherwise.

as many many do.

you know

the societal and cultural conditioning so many of us swear by.

25. Well, I tell my daughter to get active and see this as a wake up call
I think many women are afraid to be supportive of their rights and don't want to be seen as feminists. I think because it is seen as anti-male and not attractive to men. It is more important to them to attract men and keep relationships going on the man's terms then to think about other women. Many see other women as competition for men. They only concern themselves with access too health care when they need it and are outraged when others haven't provided for them.
