5. bobbolink, this helps a lot of poor women get heath care they wouldn't ordinarily have. |
|
It is important.
Both my husband and I agree that there is scant work done on low income housing but he is working on it. WE ARE people who can work on the housing issues for poor people (which we are ALL vulnerable to being!) and also on other vital issues such as health care. It has to be a seamless web. Health, housing, food, education....all vital to our survival...

6. There IS no seamlessness. This was a made-up issue to get people in a flurry. |

While the work of killing off poor people continues.

7. Keeping the ability for poor people to get health care is not a "made up issue" and IS important |
|
It will help keep them alive.
Are you seriously saying keeping health care an option for poor people is "killing off poor people"?

13. I gotta hand it to you... you do a damned good job of twisting my words to suit your purpose. |
|
And if you think by doing so you gain a lot of voters, you are TOTALLY WRONG.
You know what the truth is, and you know what I'm saying. The fact that you don't care is very telling.

15. You wrote "This was a made-up issue". And "While the work of killing off poor people continues." |
|
I disagree that having this health care for women (and men) (Planned Parenthood funding) is not a "made up issue" like you post. It is keeping people alive. This is the truth.
If you are not saying "this was a made-up issue", no, I don't know what you are saying. Would you please clarify so I can understand. Thank you.

20. Actually, that is what several people said on "progressive" media. |
|
I believe it was Randi Roades who said she saw this coming.. that it would be Planned Parenthood that was the sticking point, and it was all rigged with that in mind.
So, go argue with her.

17. You consistently pull the "class" card. Democrats are not trying to kill |
|
poor people and only a mind that has shut out all reason would claim such an end. CTYankee told you the truth, states like her state and my state are dead serious about housing and healthcare for poor people and put the force of state government behind those efforts. So cut out the fucking negativism. This from a person that was born poor and lived most of my life poor.

21. I'll stop "pulling the class card" when gays stop pulling the "gay card" and |
|
blacks stop "pulling the black card" and women stop "pulling the women's card" and Jews stop "pulling the Jews card", etc.
I am appalled that people who call themselves "progressive" are so stubborn about not seeing the prejudice and oppression that is right in front of them.
When people demand I be "positive" in the face of cuts to low-income housing when there is already a national shortage of over 3 million units of low-income housing, then I know that there is a lot of denial and lack of concern going on.
The reality is there. I will keep pointing it out until people decide to look at what is right in front of them. If you don't like to hear it, then ignore my posts.
Just remember, you can deny reality, but people who are dealing with this reality SEE it, and will vote accordingly. Then you can't complain about losing the votes of poor people.
Quite simple.

10. The RW has been after PP's funding for a long, long time. I have worked in social services for |
|
many years and I have seen this coming. It is not new and not made up for the current situation. Please understand that this has been their plan all along and many of us knew what was brewing.

12. Here is what *I* understand... I know you all want to comfort yourselves that this is all the fault |
|
of the RW. But that is NOT the case.
The Dems let this happen, and also contribute to the destruction.
Do you remember who it was who wiped out welfare? That was no RWer. Not only did he wipe it out, he was PROUD of it.
And not only did he PROUDLY wipe it out and say he should have done it in his first term, he didn't care enough about the womenn and children affected to track them to find out what happened. To this day we don't know how many became homeless, and how many died.
THAT was NOT the doing of the RW.
And all you have to do is follow some of these threads, and you find the same attitudes among "progressives" right here.
Then, pay attention to "progressive" media... just how much awareness do they get into about poverty?? They talk about all sorts of issues, and get into some heavy research about many of them. But poverty? HAH. And right there is the attitude of "progressives".... just ignore it because it isn't important.
RW? NO.

18. Bullshit. On several fronts. |
|
First, poverty is discussed in the regular media often. Forget Fox News, they are shit. Rachel Maddow and Ed Shultz discuss joblessness and poverty a minimum of twice each month. Second. It the numbers of poor people that you claim have died because of Clinton welfare reform, it would be front page news. Rather, groups that had high poverty rates not only have lower rates now, those groups also have cumulative net worths that have grown large. Does not sound like people dying off, does it? Pockets of poverty can be found in any group, but to claim systemic efforts to kill off a particular class is an exercise in foolishness.

19. Bullshit right back. What Rachel and especially Ed say repeatedly, is "MIDDLECLASS". |
|
It is precisely that omission in "progressive" media that I am talking about, and I have said that over and over and over and over. I don't know how you could have missed it.
"It the numbers of poor people that you claim have died because of Clinton welfare reform, it would be front page news."
That is absolutely wrong, and I think you know it. On the one hand, all of you complain because you say the Madison rebellion isn't covered in the news, yet NOW you claim that the news covers poor people. I'm sure all of you can see how absurd that is.
And this is exactly WHY Clinton omitted ANY tracking of the people he cut off. We have no proof to point to, and that is exactly what he wanted. Clever, eh? Kinda RW-type cleverness. For "progressives" to now claim that is "proof" that there was NO suffering really belies all the whining about the lack of coverage of OTHER "progressive" issues.
What we DO have is personal reporting, and what that shows is the suffering and homelessness and deaths that occurred.
One more thing about that... during RAYGUN, King Ronnie cut off 417,000 from disability. That wasn't covered in the news. There was a rash of suicides, and we know that because people who worked for Legal Aid were reporting it. But, it wasn't in the news, was it? So, your argument falls flat on two fronts.
What is going on here is that it is being pointed out that the party so many still have absolute allegiance to isn't doing what it says it does, and isn't doing what it did a few decades ago... protecting poor people. That isn't what people want to hear, so it is denied, and shoved under the rug, and anyone who brings it to light will be denigrated.
I am very sorry that so many of you don't want to hear the reality. However, the denial doesn't change the reality.
Good luck getting good election results with that sort of procedure.

9. while that is true, it is also true that there are poor women who are just as pissed as |
|
non poor (or soon to be poor but don't know it yet) women. Just because a woman is poor doesn't mean she is ignorant of what is going on politically. Lots of poor women vote!

14. Out of this week's deal or next week's deal? |

In the meantime, let's hope enough legislators hear from women who want their access to the important health services PP provides to be protected.
