29. after the '12 elections, dems will probably be a minority in the senate
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 08:50 AM by SoCalDem
We might retake some of the lost seats in the house, but the senate is going to be a scary place for a very long time....

Because of all the blue dogs we have who are long time incumbents retiring this year, their possible replacements may not be very viable candidates, and with DWShultz as new DNC head, I'm not all that confident that there will be any progressives even courted as possibles:(

Count on this fact:

Anything that helps the common person is a target for ALL republicans..all the time, forever and ever. they NEVER let up, and until the whole new deal/great society reforms are gone forever, and abortion is once again illegal, they will not rest..

It's practically impossible to address new, dangerous problems because republicans will never accept that somethings they hate have become law. they re-litigate/legislate non-stop, to overturn everything they do not like, so they have absolutely NO interest in ever advancing anything new and good for the country.

16. If you have been following the Women's Health Rallies on C Span,
You would know that Barbara Boxer says they definitely have a full 41 votes in the Senate to hold off the destruction of Planned Parenthood.

(And I know not everyone has cable that provides C Span, and some people are not retired like me. Don't mean to sound snarky about it.)

That is one rider that just ain't gonna get its legs!

And GOD DAMN IT, I wish out side had the fucking stones to be balls-to-the-wall aggressive on liberal policies like they are for dumbass conservative ones!

30. Fairness doctrine czar!
Contrary to the oft-repeated claim that the FD would have positively no effect on RW propaganda spewing forth from the boob tube 24/7, *somebody* in the RW ranks seems to be quite afraid of it.

Very interest revelation!

On about the forth read
I am seeing that it could be interpreted that they will have a vote, like you say symbolic, and that the vote will then fail giving Republicans a talking point. Language can be so ambiguous.

7. Both votes which democrats in the Senate will win.
Scott Brown, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins can't afford to vote with republicans. Even if Nebraska's Ben Nelson abandon democrats, democrats will the vote on both items.

15. it is ENTIRELY symbolic. The GOP is polising that turd to make them look better to tea party
the social conservatives think that making the dems vote in FAVOR of funding planned parenthood will make them vulnerable in 2012

the GOP can go to the raving madness that is the tea party and say "we got them to vote on it, now we can beat them"

btw, the tea party just this minute announced they will primary their speaker.

The votes will fail, and the Republicans know this. They want to use the votes as footballs for 2012.

22. Both votes will go the Dems way . . . BUT
It will force some Democrats on the record (again) and will create fodder for campaign commercials in next year's senate races. Imaging is the only reason I can see for demanding unnecessary votes where the outcome is not in doubt.

26. They ignore that they put some Republicans on record too
Scott Brown is genuinely on both sides - telling the MSM media one thing and the RW another. I doubt he wants that vote. Collins, Snowe and possibly a few other Republican women might have troubles as well.
