Along with James Madison, he is called the 'Father of the Bill of Rights.' For these reasons he is considered one of the 'Founding Fathers' of the United States:

That Religion, or the Duty which we owe to our Creator, and the Manner of discharging it, can be directed only by Reason and Conviction, not by Force or Violence, and therefore all Men have an equal natural and unalienable Right to the free Exercise of Religion, according to the Dictates of Conscience, and that no particular religious Sect or Society ought to be favored or established by Law, in Preference to others (Robert A. Rutland, The Papers of George Mason, Vol. 3, p. 1071, 1119 .

My intro is a direct quotation from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Mason

EDIT: Certainly, Fischer has the right to express his opinion. But it is my opinion that anyone putting his suggestions into effect would be violating the very Letter and Spirit of the Constitution. That, to me, would be treason.
