The Republicans got their asses handed to them. |
|
The deal is a promise to bring defunding Planned Parenthood and health care up to a vote in the Senate?
Yeah, talk about pointless bullshit.

1. If this had been a "win" for either party, it wouldn't have been a Friday news dump |
|
Nobody's gonna get citizen votes or campaign funds off this thing

5. What Republican proposed policy riders and cuts have been included in the bi-partisan agreement? |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 10:54 PM by Better Believe It
And which ones were taken out?
The factual details.
On every one of the riders and budget cuts.
I don't think we know yet.
But, I'm listening.

11. Who cares? The President will have nothing to lose by busting out a veto on both. |
|
But all we need is 50 senators to vote no. I think that can be done.

13. Fighting this budget was a lose lose situation for Republicans. |
|
If the bill didn't pass and the government shut down, the Republicans would look like morons for causing such a thing over defunding Planned Parenthood.
Now that they've compromised, they look like absolute morons.
They should have kept their mouth shut and let the budget get passed.

12. There'll be a different Speaker by Christmas. |
|
This is a money bill—it’s got to start in Boehner’s House.
If he can't whip enough of his own people to produce a majority, and Pelosi hands him just enough votes to pass it, when he’s supposed to have the majority, you’re basically tatooing ‘Eunuch’ on his forehead for him.
By Christmas, there’ll be another Speaker.

16. They'll have plenty more chances to shut down the government |
|
And I wouldn't be so sure that the Senate, as it is currently constituted, would support funding for either PP or HCR. If they're on a single-issue vote, there are a lot of Democratic Senators from red states who don't want to have to vote for either one, especially those who have to run for re-election in 2012. The Rethugs win no matter what those Dems vote.
And they'll be able to do the same sort of thing next week, and every week that this thing gets extended. Now, the news media won't even be able to run stories about how soldiers aren't going to get paid. Let's not forget the coming vote on extending the debt ceiling, now the tea partiers and their supporters are going to demand some heavy concessions on that, too.
The Repigs played us like a fiddle.
