Rick Sanitarium: Our healthcare system is American exceptionalism and it's what God wants
Former Pennsylvania Senator and likely presidential candidate Rick Santroum continues court Republican activists around the country, and yesterday addressed a GOP fundraiser in Colorado. Santorum, who previously claimed that the recently passed health care reform law intends to “addict Americans on government healthcare,” not only likened guaranteed health insurance to drug dealing but also said that it would have grave spiritual implications. He went on to say that there is “statistical proof” of American exceptionalism and that Republicans must be “ready to battle for America’s soul”:

“Think about how they view you,” he told the crowd of Republicans. “They view you no different than the drug dealer views the little kid in the school yard. They want to get you hooked, they want to get you dependent. They want to get you relying upon them for your wellbeing. And once they’ve satisfied you, giving them that drug, that narcotic, then you’ll be reliant on them and, by the way, you’ll also be less than what God created you to be.”

Who knew it was American exceptionalism to have health insurance and still go bankrupt, right?

Who knew that "newborn denied because of 'pre-existing conditions'" and "denied because it's an 'experimental treatment'" could be found in the Bible, right?

And God needs to get a better plan if his plan is for if you to get 2 fingers chopped off and you're only insured to have one reattached.

2. Dead baby Rick
"In his Senate office, on a shelf next to an autographed baseball, Sen. Rick Santorum keeps a framed photo of his son Gabriel Michael, the fourth of his seven children. Named for two archangels, Gabriel Michael was born prematurely, at 20 weeks, on Oct. 11, 1996, and lived two hours outside the womb.

"Upon their son's death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen's parents' home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.

"'That's my little guy,' Santorum says, pointing to the photo of Gabriel, in which his tiny physique is framed by his father's hand. The senator often speaks of his late son in the present tense. It is a rare instance in which he talks softly.

"He and Karen brought Gabriel's body home so their children could 'absorb and understand that they had a brother,' Santorum says. 'We wanted them to see that he was real,' not an abstraction, he says. Not a 'fetus,' either, as Rick and Karen were appalled to see him described -- 'a 20-week-old fetus' -- on a hospital form. They changed the form to read '20-week-old baby.'"

7. Yes and in the process, fucked up his other children for life.
I mourn his loss of a child but really. This just seems wrong in so many ways but passing a dead fetus around to his other kids is beyond words.

3. I found this quote from Harry Truman
"Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it."
— Harry S. Truman

..some things, like the modern Republican party, don't change

5. Here's what Rick meant.
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 12:05 AM by Jack Sprat
God would only approve of medical treatment and cures for the rich and famous. Ordinary people, nah no way. Jesus only ministered to millionaires according to Ricky Sanitorium. No healing for the average guy or gal. No way baby. It's all about the money according to Saint Ricky.

6. Then people need to go to the nearest church
and demand that their god take care of the all expenses.
If the people of this nation are told that we have to put god first then it is time for all the churches to start paying.
That is what god wants I say

10. I am so sick of conservatives constantly bringing in Jesus and God into everything.
PLUS, Jesus was a pacifist AND a socialist. The only possible issue he would agree with conservatives on would be abortion. Other than that, he's as liberal as can be, but sadly they don't talk about the REAL IMPORTANT MESSAGE that Jesus preached, which was HELP the poor and love your neighbor, and the Christian Right completely ignores that.

11. That's a maybe on that.
People who are against abortion should actually read the Bible, it's full of references to infanticide and ripping babies out of the womb.

12. the fact the people like Santorum, Bachmann, Beck, Palin, et al have an audience...
...is incomprehensible to me. They court the ignorant. Evidently there are LOTS of ignorant folks that listen to them. That's SO discouraging!
