We're all so busy in our own worlds, fighting the good fight, why is it that part of that good fight
seems to ignore the poor? Aren't they part of this fight? I never hear about the poor on tv news, cable or even very much on the internet. Why is that? Are these people just expendable, are the poor easy to ignore because they have little voice and "we" can't or won't hear them. I've asked this before, why is a segment of our population invisible. Is it just about out of sight out of mind? Since we don't or won't see them, does that mean they don't exist. When was the last time any of our Democratic Representatives including the President spoke about the poor? If we don't talk about them, they don't exist? I am ashamed of this Democrats and disgusted by the Republicons as they gut gut gut anything relied on by the poor, while the millionaires and billionaires get government tax cut bonuses on the backs of the poor and middle class. Also, even some people who consider themselves "middle class", just how long do you think it will be until you are among the poor? Some might even be there now, but are afraid to admit it. Are we all so into our own problems and lives, that we forget that there are those who are far worse off than us, that they are suffering, and need help not cuts in services. Why didn't the Democrats say, "hey, instead of tax cuts for the millionaires and billionaires", "why don't we help the suffering poor? Do our governing bodies ever think about how their budget cuts affect the poorest among us? Those cuts just cause more suffering for the poor and since the poor have no voice, the added suffering is ignored. When will we start to think about all of our citizens as being as valuable as the next. What did the poorest among us do, other than being poor, do to deserve their suffering and their invisible status. They are Americans, they are valid, they have value and they need help. They need health care, they need housing, they need food and they need someone to care. Someone to be their voice. Where are those voices? Thousands of lobbyists, lawyers and others speak for the rich and powerful, but who speaks for those with no voice, the poor? Where is the lobby for the poor who would take their needs to the powerful in our government to get the attention needed on behalf of the poor. The poor don't have campaign donations (bribes) to give to those in power to get their ear to hear their concerns and fight on their behalf. That's sad and it's sick and it needs to change fast. I want to hear more about the poor, how they live, how they suffer, what they need to make their lives better. Instead all we seem to hear about is what corporations need, what the rich and powerful need and what scraps to give the middle class. But we rarely seem to hear about those among us who suffer the most, day in and day out, the invisible and voiceless poor.

1. Everything you've written rings true to me
Because I KNOW poor people.

The problem is, the people REPORTING to us about
what's happening in the country are RICH. It wasn't
always that way -- when Cronkie reported about Vietnam,
he wasn't making millions (probably) -- yet now we
get our "news" from the rich perspective. We focus
more on the stock market reports than the unemployment
figures ... If people don't have a personal connection
to poverty, they don't get it ...

UNLESS THEY'RE BOBBY KENNEDY ...

and unfortunately we don't have another one of him
around right now, as much as we need him. We rely
on millionaires (or nearly millionaires) to give us
the news of how "WE're" doing.

If you don't have the poor in your own personal life,
you don't feel them ... Some of us have exceptional
empathy but the majority don't, and if you don't
personally see/feel it, it ain't happening ...

But that's what NEWS used to be -- letting us know what
was happening outside of our own block/experience.

The news has been cancelled. (Thanks, Randi.)

2. The Republicans now run the show and the poor are not the
focus of the Republican Party.

The unfortunate truth is Liberals and Progressives
are the only ones who will concern and make efforts
for the poor.

Conservative and some Centrists share Republican views
re poor--just not as harsh.
