I've got a "compromise" for the Republicans...
I would be more than happy to trade $100 billion in cuts...IF the Republicans will agree to these tax brackets:

$82,400-$171,850: 59 percent of the amount over $82,400 (up from 28 percent)
$171,850-$373,650: 64 percent of the amount over $171,850 (up from 33 percent)
$373,650 and up: 70 percent of the amount over $373,650 (up from 35 percent)

If the Republicans want to institute IMF-style austerity on the US, they need to go all the way: the IMF, when it does one of its bailouts, insists on tax increases.
