I expect to hear soon just exactly WHERE these budget cuts are coming from. |
|
I heard that yesterday, during the tense negotiations between the White House, Reid, and Boener, VP Biden lost his temper (good for him) and said, words to the effect that "that's enough, we'll take this to the people." Now if that third hand (at least) report is true, then I infer that, this was the last straw that broke the elephant's back; that taking it to the people would have publicized the nasty stuff the elephant was standing on.
I want to know what WAS given up. And we need to start fighting against the next onslaught of elephant stampedes and make it PUBLIC.

Without really addressing the deficit in a meaningful way.
I've never seen a debate over the federal budget sink to such a low level, or seen such an insignificant result labeled "historic."

"One in the final deal would ban the use of federal or local government funds to pay for abortions in the District of Columbia. A program dear to Boehner that lets District of Columbia students use federally funded vouchers to attend private schools also survived.
Republicans had included language to deny federal money to put in place Obama's year-old health care law. The deal only requires such a proposal to be voted on by the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it is certain to fall short of the necessary 60 votes."

Well, I'm not sure I expect it, but I'd really like to know. All I have so far is a vague idea.
