It's nonsensical to believe that something was saved
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 09:49 AM by boston bean
when 1/2 or 2/3 of something was given up!

And what was given away was just given away.

No fight, no bully pulpit, no messaging, no address to the american people, no making of a case in any manner. Barely a peep. Sort of like how the GWB tax cuts were extended.

And when all that stuff is just given away, you can't claim victory President Obama.

You have sold people out. You have given away the farm.

It's like asking someone to be grateful because you let the baby live, but killed off it's mother, father and older siblings.

edit to remove the letter T

2. Getting nothing for the work
Let's see...in these latest budget negotiations, what actually was gained?
Right-wing talking points, political mailers sent out on both sides with their fear points.
No jobs, in fact, more will be lost with the budget cuts.
No higher taxes for the very wealthy or corporations who still hide profits offshore and don't pay taxes in the U.S.
More pandering and time wasting by politicians.
More airtime spent on explaining just what Planned Parenthood does (and that wasn't a bad thing, but shouldn't people know by now?)
Obama continuing to buckle under a noisy, seemingly stupid minority of people who don't know the facts.
The continuing absence of clear Democratic talking points, outside a few select pols and talking heads.

So, what was gained? Nothing for all that work. And much lost as will be seen.

Recall, educate, give them the facts in simple language they can understand.

4. Seems to me I saw the President addressing the American people
every day. It was hard to miss the importance of keeping the government running and people working.

5. I saw that also
I think there are just some on both sides that will "never" be happy with anything the president does!

8. What did he actually DO?
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 10:41 AM by realFedUp
Standing up and being the President is what he is supposed to do...that was what he was elected to do.
Standing up for what is right, moral, factual, and good for people's welfare
and the future of stability of this country is what he was elected to do.

Just going through the motions by jumping through one more Republican hoop by cutting more jobs,
eliminating more funding to organizations that actually make this country and its people healthier
is not standing up or being President.

It's just acting like he's being a President.

Someone needs to tell the "uneducated, uninformed, proud of and loud about it",
that they are wrong and don't have the facts.
Please.
Now, before we lose much more in this country.

7. Well, as politics go--Planned Parenthood is my #1 cause
I support it financially, I volunteer...it is the one consistent in my life.

My kids tease me when the envelope comes from them every month--asks me if there is "something we need to talk about".

It is MY pet.

However, there was NO victory yesterday. Yes, PP was saved yesterday...for a while. But they are going to get more aggressive everytime they come back for it. Eventually, it will go. It is inevitable.

BUT what it ALSO did was paint the entire argument that Planned Parenthood was saved at the expense of OTHER social programs. People who really didn't care about the money that PP received all of the sudden WILL care if what THEY need was taken away in order to support it.

We will LOSE support over the way this argument was framed. The wounds sustained by Planned Parenthood won't be noticed right away. I will continue to forever and always support them. However, they will lose soft support. The fact that the NAME was even used in legislation was wrong. That would have made it a Bill of Attainder. It was directly and specifically used to make people HATE them. I don't believe the goal was to take it away YET...the goal was again, divide and conquer the casual PP support from the die-hard PP support. It will work.

We LOST a lot more than we gained yesterday.

10. and it's a good time to give them money
and of course, more support. It's an organization that gives much more
than it gets and it's one that actually works in this country.

The huge amounts of money wasted on the killing machines
of the defense department are the real waste and protesters
seeking to save lives should be protesting outside their
thousands of doors.

9. Same story different day....
No leadership. No bully pulpit. Let the Republicans dictate the terms and the parameters of the debate. Let them punch and punch and punch and hit and hit.

Then when they only beat us to a bloody pulp and cripple us rather than killing us, raise hands in a V sign and run around doing a victory lap and declaring victory.

It's getting old and I think each time this pattern is repeated, more and more people are seeing it for what it is: a pure and unmitigated load of bullshit.

Of course there will always be the Baghdad Bob's who continue to support, enable, and allow this by also going "No, really we are winning. The enemy is on the run. We really got the best of them this time. Just you wait and see."

Although I see the the unreccers are out in full force, you have many eloquent people on the board today agreeing with you. Unlike the unreccers, they are giving their reasons for doing so quite well.

13. Are that many in our ranks that gave the bully their lunch money
and the bullies troubled them no more?

Did they also read history books where one nation ceded it's territory and was not asked to give anymore land or tribute?

What in experience, history, or the observation of nature gives people the idea that this leads anywhere but down?
How many decades are silly fuckers going to expect blow back of lasting consequence and why?

Many of our folks are as willfully stupid as the Republican 28%ers. Stupid, illogical, and demonstrably false ideas are not going to carry any day except for those with the resource control who profit from our follies.
