Some Democrats Complain About Budget Compromise
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 10:50 AM by cal04

President Obama hailed the late-night budget deal that averted a government shutdown on Friday as “good news for the American people,” but members of his own party seemed less convinced.

Hours after the spending crisis was averted with a series of handshakes just before midnight, some Democrats began complaining that their legislative leaders and Mr. Obama had given away too much in the bargain.

Robert Reich, the former labor secretary under President Bill Clinton, wrote on Twitter: “The right held the U.S. govt hostage, and O paid most of the ransom — inviting more hostage-taking. Next is raising debt ceiling.”

“The American people have been told the agreement contains both ‘historic’ and ‘painful’ cuts. The question will be painful for whom,” Mr. Miller wrote. “Poor and middle class families have already received more than their fair share of pain in this economy while the wealthy and special interests have paid no price.” (George Miller of California)

2. It is hard to put lipstick on this Pig. How can anyone say the
Democrats won when they agreed to bring the Health
Care Bill up for a vote. Will our own Conservatives
vote to repeal Obama Health Care.

We all know any cuts were from the Poor and Middle
Class.

Welcome to RW America.

3. It's smelling like a replay of his extension of the Bush Tax Cuts.
'Look! I saved you from this horrible evil thing we made up!'.

6. His extension?
If by "his" you mean the Republicans, then you are correct.

Obama's position was to raise upper tax rates back to pre-Bush levels. The Republican assholes said NO.

11. And then what?
He had to agree with the asshole party to keep the tax cuts for the bottom 98%.

What's your idea?

12. the tax cuts for the bottom 98%
were and are insignificant. the added expenses we will all incur as a result of these cuts will far outweigh the several hundred dollar cuts that he "got" for us.

Words are free. All that matters is what's actually signed into law.

The Bush tax cut for the middle class is paltry in comparison to that for the wealthy anyway. If the Democrats had wanted to, they could've advanced a middle class tax cut on it's own and let the Bush Tax Cuts expire. They could've fought for that if they wanted, before they actually handed over Congress. But they didn't. Obama and the rest of the Democratic leadership chose to frame it as 'all or nothing', and, 'well, shucks, we just had to compromise to defend your middle class tax cut'.

Do you actually believe that crap?

14. Obama did and continues to support letting the Bush tax cuts expire.
Period.

The difference between me and you is that I blame the person or party that is responsible, not the person or party that fought for the people.

16. "Fought for"? The Bush Tax Cuts were set to expire on their own.
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 04:56 PM by Marr
There was no "fight" necessary, save for the one the Democrats could've surely won, and even ridden to electoral victories, if they'd so chosen (middle class tax cuts on their own).

Face it-- that was just one of our less-convincing pieces of political theater, and it was designed to give Democrats cover for extending the Bush Tax Cuts in their entirety.

“A few months ago, I was able to sign a tax cut for American families because both parties worked through their differences and found common ground,” the president said.

7. I've yet to hear what we got out of the alleged compromise
Sounds more like capitulation that compromise. Huge tax cuts for the rich came directly at the expense of public works for the masses.

10. Gee. I'm beginning to see a pattern developing!
Yes, Dr. Watson, a distinct pattern is emerging!

Putting lipstick on THIS pig will be interesting.
Look for words like "historic" & "saved".

Who will STAND and FIGHT for THIS American Majority?
Lofty Rhetoric, Broken Promises, and Whiny Excuses mean NOTHING now.
"By their WORKS you will know them,"
and by their WORKS they will be judged.
