Democrats Desperately Need Talking Points
The party is horrible at messaging even though we are lead by a brilliant, inspirational orator. Americans can only understand messages that fit on a bumper sticker (present company excluded, of course).

The regressives know how to drive a point home and embed it into the American psyche, even if it's a lie! Learn from them. Emulate their methods. It's the only way to beat back their dangerous goals.

10. And the "base" is doing what it does best....
forming a circular firing squad versus organizing. Talking points come from an agenda, and I have yet to see an organized group of agreed upon goals from the left.

3. What makes you think the Democrats are on our side...
I think they are getting exactly what they want and their corporate master are very pleased. Watch what they do, not what they say.

The whole system needs to be thrown out and start over.

From my seat, it looks like they are just gutting whatever is left of the country. And when the shits hit the fan, there will be nothing left for us plebes and the riches they stole from this country will be safely overseas.

Personally I think we're fucked and nothing short of a revolution is going to change anything.

Capitulation, before they even ask.

or maybe...

Why show spine, when you can cave?

or...

Sacrificing America to Billionaires since 2008.

or perhaps...

The reason for the Democrats is so there's no alternative to the Republicans!!!

8. Because I don't want to live in an Ayn Rand novel
where the poor and disadvantaged are looked at as scum. Maybe the Democratic party could be wrestled back.

9. I don't think that's up to us anymore.
I believe that play has been called in from the sidelines by Walmart or Exxon

7. We Need Some Media Outlets to Use Our Talking Points ON
What good are talking points if nobody ever hears them?

12. Not true
Democrats were all over the media this week, all with different, long-winded messages. I consider myself politically astute yet I couldn't follow their narrative.

It is either by mistake or by design.

11. talking points only work if there is action to back them up
And as we seem to need to have a *grow a spine marathon* for many in DC -- finding talking points alone isn't going to work.

13. Change "Bush tax cuts" to "Billionaire pay raises"
Change "deficit problem" into "The rich are refusing to pay taxes"
Change "entitlements" to "You are damned right I'm entitled to all the services I pay for."
Change "defense spending" to "The cost of occupation" or "The cost of war"

16. To have talking points you need leadership, principles, and objectives.
Edited on Sat Apr-09-11 12:26 PM by JVS
We need to get those first.

19. I listend to Bernie Sanders on Thom Hartmann and he thought we had good messaging. It was a matter
of the media not picking up on what we are saying. Is he
kidding????? You're right, we need new talking points. I am
always trying to
think of good ones. I can't depend on politicians. We really
are what we've been waiting for.
