3. Some years back when I worked in restaurants |
|
One of the real advantages was that I got to eat all I wanted so my food cost went to zero.
I guess it should be comforting to know that in modern day America at least we won't starve to death.

13. home depot should teach their employees about their products |
|
i remember when i was a kid and went a few times with my dad the people working there always seemed to understand what you were talking about and were able to help.
but these days many don't seem to know. i'm not saying they have to be professionals but at least enough where they can even refer to someone else working there if they can't do it themselves.
in fact i find those who are more helpful tend to be other customers there .

16. couldn't they sell more with informed employees ? |
|
start them off minimum with jobs like cashier , stocking etc and as they learn more and can help more and increase sales as a result promote them with higher pay.

Why train your workers when all they will do is take that training and work for someone else that pays better?

29. So those workers can help increase customers and sales |
|
and they will be able to pay them a competitive wage so they will have no reason to leave for a similar job. The HDs near my house have great customer service and from what I hear they do pay a decent wage compared to other retail jobs.

21. Only one company from the manufacturing sector, |
|
What a telling, and sad, statement that is. The rest are service sector jobs, which pay far less than those in the manufacturing sector. Which goes a long way to explaining why our society is sliding downhill.

22. I'll take the presence of HD and Lowe's as a good sign for me. |
|
I work in construction and it's been a brutal recession. If demand for lumber and hardware and drywall and crap has picked up enough that those guys are ready to start hiring, maybe we're at long last about to turn the corner.

25. Wanna bet most jobs in the top three |
|
are part-time(20 hours a week or less) and virtually no benefits. That's all companies are hiring these days. McDonald's is getting ready to go on a hiring spree on April 19; 50,000 new minimum wage, part-time workers. So much for making a decent living in this country.

27. Given how huge WalMart is, and how |
|
amazing their turnover is (sometimes as much as 300% in a year), it is not possible to believe that they are not in the top ten. I rather expect they really are number one, but refused to participate in the survey.
Unless, the weasel word is Adding the most employees. WalMart's total number of employees may well be fairly static, despite the amazing turnover they have.
I work in a hospital, currently part time on their information desk, and I am totally astonished at the turnover here. My department, which is mainly people who register patients, has had about 80% turnover in about 20 months, since I first started. The number of employees has remained the same in that time, so in theory there are no additional employees. But there have been a lot of new hires.
