The Republicans Oppose the Prevention of Abortions So They Can Use Abortions as a Political Tool
Edited on Sun Apr-10-11 12:48 AM by earthlover
It is fortunate that the government avoided a shutdown that would have damaged our economy just when it was climbing out of a morass.

What is disconcerting is that the shutdown, far from saving money, would probably have COST the taxpayers money. The shutdown of 1995-96 cost the federal government over $1.4 billion. How soon we forget.

It would be laughable if it were not so sad….the Republicans tried to hold the entire budget hostage to a policy that would have INCREASED abortions in the name of ending abortions. They tried to ban all funding for family planning and Planned Parenthood.

On the planet Earth, educated human life forms know that funding for abortions has been banned for years. Even Republican politicos know this, but they are so cynical that they think Americans are so uninformed that they don’t know that family planning has PREVENTED millions of unwanted pregnancies over the years and millions of abortions as well.

The number one reason a woman has an abortion is economic. So why aren’t the Republican politicians the most eager to help the economic plight of single mothers and support affordable child care, health care, etc? Why are they uncomfortable even at the mention of birth control? Why is it that almost every proposal that would help prevent abortions is shouted down because it costs too much?

Fact of the matter is that money spent on family planning reduces money spent through Medicaid. Have any of the brainiacs of the right even pondered that cutting family planning will lead to increased welfare costs? So much for their sincerity on balancing the budget!

I think it is time that we see the politicians who banter about the issue of abortion for political gain for what they are: politicians! Those of us who oppose abortion should be smarter than to fall for their poppycock.

The proof is in the pudding. Family planning prevents abortions. The Republican Party wants to decrease funding for family planning. For all their long-winded cheap talk about abortion, the fact of the matter is the right opposes measures that would prevent abortions.

Just one question: How many abortions have been caused by birth control information?

1. Birth control information has caused one thing they like even less than abortion.
Sex.

Worse than that, sex without punishment.

Worse than that, poor people having sex without punishment.

2. Speaking as one who knows, nothing ruins the pleasure of sex
more than the mindless terror of becoming pregnant (again) and being unable to do anything about it because one is married to a practicing Catholic (pre-pill, and before safe, legal abortions).

God did not intend that poor people should have any pleasures.
If He wanted them to enjoy anything in life, He would have made them rich.

4. Worse - Pre Meditated Sex without punishment
"Daddy, I Do" - documentary

If you were to do sex safely, it’s premeditated.

Sex prior to marriage is a sin, so why are we telling young people how to protect themselves in sin?

I wouldn’t tell my daughter to use a condom in a sex act.

The politically conservative Evangelical community believes sex is meant to take place only within the context of marriage, and favors Abstinence-Only curriculum in the American educational system. Powerful Christian organizations along with $1.3 billion in federal funding have created Purity Balls, high-tech road shows and faith-based education curricula disputing safe sex practices. Daddy I Do sheds light on the personal and social implications of the growing Abstinence Movement by examining key abstinence programs from the perspective of promoters and participants. This documentary includes vigorous discussion between both sides of the debate, punctuated by personal stories, creating a controversial dynamic.

3. A bumpersticker I've been wanting to see for years:
Help us end abortions:
Give us Contraceptives that work.
