She wasn't gigged for being druggie & fellow suppressor of minorities voters REHNQUIST's crony. She wasn't gigged for saying on Election Night 2000 when GORE was sometimes declared elected, "This is terrible!1" Nothing has stuck to her saintedness.

Critics fault retired Justice O'Connor over ethics

By MARK SHERMAN
Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor continues to hear cases in U.S. appeals courts, while also playing a role in public policy issues. Her critics say she should do one or the other, but not both.

O'Connor, 81, was forced to apologize for 50,000 recorded telephone calls made to Nevada voters in which she supported a ballot measure to change the way state judges are selected. O'Connor said she did not authorize the calls featuring her recorded voice, much less their post-midnight delivery. But she also defended her involvement in the campaign that included her appearance in a television commercial. ....

Supreme Court justices are not covered by the ethics rules that apply to all federal judges. Still, justices generally adhere to those rules, Hellman said. ....

Silberman said that unlike the criticism of Scalia and Thomas, which he termed phony issues, O'Connor's advocacy "is a real ethical issue." ....

1. She is trying to counter the GOP as this is what they do but criticize her for it.
I am not defending this but until there is an outcry over all judges doing this (Thomas etc) then it is just stupid not to do it.

Who thinks she is a Saint? I never heard that from any one but you.

2. So you *are* defending ("just stupid not to do it"). Plus, you cite the THOMAS

example without noting that a supposed authority in the article said the THOMAS/SCALIA examples are "phony"? Oh, wait, that "phony" reference was not buried deeply inside a long article, it was ACTUALLY CITED in the o.p. I can see how you might have missed it.

As for the sainthood thing, ever hear of rhetorical devices?!1 Plus, the sainthood thing is about the prevailing kid gloves (as with RAYGUN) she is kneaded with, about being the first-female-justice/blah-blah, the moderating-swing-vote who supposedly reined in the rabid wingnuts/blah-blah. I also refer to RAYGUN as Saint RAYGUN. But I'm sure that's also just me.

3. Thank you, UTUSN.
If she wasn't above the law, the little cowgirl'd have a lot of explaining to do.
