In retrospect, one thing really baffles me about the whole "fake Acorn scandal" episode: |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-10-11 02:12 PM by howard112211
Look, I know that many Democrats are sellouts. And also that no group is beyond being thrown under the bus for strategic, or other reasons. But with Acorn, there was a group whose activities more or less directly lead to more people voting Democrat. So why the hell, under those circumstances, were they unwilling to stand up for them? I mean, was there any sort of calculation that went into that, like that turning on Acorn would gain more of the precious "independent centrist" votes than it would lose from people not being registered? Or was it simply an act that was totally beyond spinelessness, and nothing else? Do Democrats even want to be elected?

1. I don't get that either. We bitch that pubs vote against |
|
their own best interests, but the dems do it all the time. Voting against Acorn was voting against our best interests.

2. Voting to defund ACORN... |
|
...was another example of Dems selling out their REAL base, especially since ACORN was not guilty of what Breitbart's tool, the phony journalist O'Keefe, accused them of through his contrived bullshit hit-videos.
This constant and recurring capitulation to insane, corrupt right-wingers is extremely discouraging.

3. And not only that, but upon the later clear information that they were |
|
panicked into action against ACORN, and that the charges against ACORN were laughable at best and criminally fraudulant at worst, why did they not revoke their previous decision and re-instate the canceled funding?
THAT is what bothers me.

4. As a lifelong democrat for decades, the democrats move further from me each day. If the |
|
democrats move further to the right and throw many more under the bus I'm beginning to wonder just who their constituency will be ... which was my thought when I read your question, "Do Democrats even want to be elected?"

These people are not innocent naive Dems wandering into the forest full of wolves.
Don't be suckers, we were played by pragmatic actors.

6. Dems seem to bend over backward to prove they |
|
aren't hypocrites. At the slightest indication of wrong doing they go after the person/org. (if it's Dem) just to show we are as tough on our own as we are on anyone else...Only thing is we are never tough on anyone else, just our own.

7. I'm beginning to think its because it has to do with poverty. |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-10-11 03:07 PM by bobbolink
As many are saying here, it is bad strategery to talk about poor people... it is important to keep the conversation fixed on the middleclass.
Given that, I am believing more and more there is a move, or at least an agreement, to shut out poor people. And given that middleclass progressives aren't willing themselves to voice complaint, it will happen by silence as assent.
So, don't come blaming us for election losses.

8. Some things have been just a tad suspicious. |
|
The reaction to the made up ACORN scandal was one.
