I had an interesting phone call today, from a young man who is a volunteer for Planned Parenthood. Sometimes when I get a call similar to this, I can tell that I'm talking to a person who is really invested in what he/she is working on. Such was the case with this fellow. He is from the state of Mississippi, but presently resides in the city of Boston, where he attends college. He is pursuing a career in psychology.
We discussed the attack on Planned Parenthood, which I think everyone on this forum would agree is distinct from the actions of sincere people who seek ways to reduce the number of abortions in America. It's about imposing a minority religious group's moral values on everyone; about denying women control of their being; and about cutting services to the poor.
I told my new friend that, as a retired social worker, I could think of hundreds of people I knew who had benefited from the services of Planned Parenthood, although I could not identify a single one who had had an abortion. Perhaps someone had; but I have never considered that to be my interest. It is in my interest, however, as a citizen of this nation, to have Planned Parenthood able to provide the array of services that they traditionally do.
Again, forum members are clearly aware of the current conflict over federal funding for parts of these services. Here is a link to a recent news story:

Like most Americans, I am feeling the economic pinch right now. I do not have any “extra” money sitting around, gathering dust or interest. But I'm making a donation. And I'm encouraging you to consider supporting Planned Parenthood.

This includes the White House. Let them know that proposed cuts are unacceptable.
The fight to protect Planned Parenthood is not over. In fact, it's just beginning a new stage.
