Obama’s new approach to deficit reduction to include spending on entitlements
By Zachary A. Goldfarb
April 10, 2011

President Obama this week will lay out a new approach to reducing the nation’s soaring debt, proposing reductions in spending on entitlements such as Medicare and Medicaid and renewing his call for tax hikes on the rich.

In an effort to go on the offensive in the battle over government spending, Obama will look for cuts in “all corners of government,” senior adviser David Plouffe said on several Sunday talk shows.

But contrasting the president’s approach with what Republican leaders have put forward, Plouffe said Obama would use a “scalpel” and not a “machete” as he seeks to preserve funding for education and other areas he sees as crucial to the country’s long-term economic success.

Still, Plouffe said Obama is committed to doing more to slash the fast-rising cost of Medicare and Medicaid, to roll back George W. Bush-era tax cuts for those earning more than $250,000 and to even discuss changes to Social Security.

1. Republicans move 10 steps to the right
Obama "only" moves 8 steps to the right, then claims victory.

In the end, everyone not wealthy gets screwed over again.

3. Hmm, since HCR was supposed to be cutting the waste out of Medicare and Medicaid,
What are these cuts going to be doing?

Probably cutting out a pound of flesh, and we're supposed to be grateful since under the 'Pugs it would be cutting to the bone.

Nobody in Washington ever seems to consider not cutting our social service programs, and cutting into the bloated military budget, oh no. Always the cuts have to come out of social services.:puke:

And then there is that little tag line at the end, the little teaser, "He said that though Obama does not think Social Security liabilities are a primary driver of the nation’s deficit and debt, the president would be open to discussing that, too."

Time to bend over, again.

"Obama is committed to doing more to slash the fast-rising cost of Medicare and Medicaid, to roll back George W. Bush-era tax cuts for those earning more than $250,000" besides Republicans?

27. on the news this morning
they were talking about the repukes cutting "entitlements" and regurgitated the talking point of social security tied to the budget. On another thread someone told me to prove the privatizing of medicare--well, that's what they were talking about this morning. How the repukes want to privatize medicare--you know, those damn corporations have to have their pound of flesh--and how the elderly would suffer even more by having to buy this shite private insurance.
