How about a different approach? What do you think of this idea? (I can take it) |
|
I think we should develop a mass movement to EMBARRASS (guilt them, inother words) the uber rich by sponsoring commercials and billboards spotlighting their overindulgent wealth (yachts, mansions, jewelry, Rolls Royces, furs, etc.) transposed against pictures of the millions of suffering Americans. The caption could read something like: "We all have to sacrifice for our country, eh? What sacrifices are YOU making? Just how many HOMES do you need? How about giving up your tax breaks for 5 years? Show us by leading the way. Others will follow. How about supporting the Golden Goose that laid your golden eggs? Just WHERE is your heart?"
I mean... let's make it PERSONAL.
... just thinkin'

I like to hear. At least you are thinking of a way to get things moving in the right direction. Good for you!
On edit: The thing is that there would only have to be one billboard that would get a lot of publicity.

6. Personal is the way to go |
|
because personal is the way it is. People in need are called parasites by politicians such as Paul Ryan. The poor are often set up for ridicule in the media. Certainly the comments sections of media has horrendous personal attacks whenever there are articles about medicaid, unemployment and the homeless.
I like your idea.

I'm not sure they are capable of shame. If they were, would they shove their luxuries in people's faces in the first place?
It'd be worth trying, though, if for no other reason than to remind everyone else of why they should be pissed off.

8. Agreed. This fight needs Dr. Evil to be exposed. Show their greed.... |
|
....the decadence. Call them out BY NAME.
The division of wealth in our Country is so skewed that this approach is fully justified. If the right yells "class warfare" as expected, our response should be "yes, we're finally fighting back in the class warfare you've been waging against the poor and middle class."

10. What we should spotlight is their corporate and personal tax rates |

and how small a proportion of their vast wealth they contribute to the common good.

Rich people don't associate helping poor people with paying taxes. If you shamed a rich person into helping others, they'd probably write a check to the Red Cross before they thought of writing one to the treasury. Look at Bill Gates. He has a social conscience and spends billions to help others. I doubt if he's written an extra check to the IRS.

Billionaires for Bush still around?
Not quite the same thing, but a great group nonetheless.
