1. How does that stop fascism? Citizens United was when the ACLU helped guarantee fascism's triumph. |

the ACLU. Odd that they say nothing about stopping "the spread of fascism" in the United States on their website.

8. I was an active supporter but am no more because of their stance |

on Citizens' United. I would not expect to agree with every stance that the ACLU takes. But doing anything to support increasing campaign donations by corporations is just despicable and a waste of money.

I'm a long-time member. More, I've contacted the ACLU numerous times through the years. They can be helpful for grass roots activist, even without going to court. Years ago, in a school board election, the school in question was attempting to keep low-income citizens from voting. This included some personal attacks against yours truly. The ACLU came through: we won the two contested seats.

11. With regard to the folks pissed-off about Citizens United... |
|
If you accept that artificial persons such as corporations exist, then it is entirely reasonable that our right to speech, *GUARANTEED IN THE CONSTITUTION*, extends to all persons, artificial or natural. This was the narrow position for which the ACLU filed its amicus brief.
It would have been great if Citizens United had been a case about "corporate personhood", but it wasn't. That was *NOT* any part of the question that reached the Supreme Court, so there was no opportunity for the ACLU to take a stance on that.
But even then, be careful what rights you're willing to discard: labor unions and political parties are corporations too, and under this decision, they have speech rights too, rights that we usually like.
