Private investment firms...
...and hedge fund managers just can't wait to get their hoofs in the Social Security trough.
They can fuck it all up just like they did the economy.

The Repubs are doing their bidding but the real question is will the Democrats go along with this also?

I would not even have thought to ask this question a few years ago but now I am not so certain.

1. Oh, I think privatizing SS is right out of the question.
It ain't happening. Not after the recent debacle in the stock market. That would be a sure veto.

3. I agree, it won't happen unless Republicans manage to grab the majority in both houses of Congress..
and the White House.

Everyone who had any kind of IRA in 2007 saw what happened to it.

4. Then it's up to us, isn't it? All of us.
We can try to turn out every Democrat, or we can sit on our hands and watch things go away. I know what my choice will be. How 'bout you?

2. Not so sure partial privatization would be vetoed. Clinton came this close to it in '95.
Barack's economic policies are perhaps to the right of Bill's. I wouldn't count out the possibility that we'll see a coordinated attack on Medicare and SS, since Obama seems convinced that he has to play the consummate Centrist (gather Republican votes) to win in 2012.

5. jeez guys, it's not gonna be a smash and grab, it's going to be
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 07:32 PM by onethatcares
a sleight of hand, a mere touch that begins the downfall of the retirement fund for millions The p.r. campaign will start out with a slab of dollar bills shown being stuffed into a lockbox with a 0% interest sticker on it, the next scene will be the same stack of bills with a wall street ticker running under it as it multiplies, over and over and over. Along with that scenario, they'll be pictures of healthy, wealthy folks playing golf, sailing, and doing aerobics in beautiful houses. Everyone will be smiling and the grab will be the words, "THIS COULD BE YOUR RETIREMENT". There will be no scene showing what happens when the big financial houses take those payroll donated funds (not to be confused with union dues) into the black hole of CEO bonuses.

Get your kids ready now, because it's gonna happen hard in their lifetimes. It's better they're aware of the scam before time.
