I just heard a number that I'd never heard before. Not a shock, not out of line.

Gas prices are up 20% this year.

Wow.

Say that to yourself. "Gas is up 20% this year."

Ouch.

5. nice broadbrush there...
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 06:09 PM by OneTenthofOnePercent
there are alot of "asshole" americans that live rurally and 4 wheel drive is a necessity in the winter or rainy months. There are alot of large families that require more seating than 4. There are alot of people that may have to tow something. Gee, I guess they're all "assholes". :eyes:

Small cars dont work for everyone... maybe not even for half. A bigger problem is all the people commuting 30+ minutes to work everyday and heating 2000+ square foot homes with vaulted ceilings.

27. Speaking of broad brushes
Not many 2000 sq. ft. homes are going to have vaulted ceilings. Not exactly McMansions at that size.

15. Many simply can't afford to do so...
...Not every "gas guzzler" is some pimped out Hummer. Many are just old, run down cars whose owners can't afford to trade them in for newer, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

19. frankly that sounds low to me
with current price at 3.72 that would make the price at the beginning of the year 3.10 and I think it was lower than that.

20. My bicycle and I are fine
...having traded up to pedal-power back in 2008 during the last "shock". I know there's a lot of people who don't have that as an option, but if you think it might work, its well worth a try.

My commute is 6 miles each way, and its one of the better parts of the day. Cost-wise, I bought a $300 bicycle from our local bike shop (recommend avoid w-mart stuff - its not made for any kind of miles) and I put 10,000 miles on it with only about $100 of maintenance - tires and brake pads.
