Liberal Dems claim the plan eliminates deficit by 2021

WASHINGTON – As the focus on Capitol Hill shifts to America's long-run fiscal woes, Congressional progressives are one step ahead of the White House and Democratic leaders in offering a counter-proposal to the House GOP approach.

The broad sketch proposes to end the Bush-era tax cuts on high income earners, enact a surtax on millionaires and billionaires, increase the the estate tax and eliminate corporate tax loopholes and subsidies for oil and coal companies. It also aims to create a public health insurance option, end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and invest $1.45 trillion in "job creation," energy, housing and education programs.

3. Democrats that sound like Democrats?
I don't think the idea will catch on.

Well, in Wisconsin, maybe.

4. Hell tax the rich enough and
we could have the deficit fixed by the end of Obama's second term.

5. Time to go on the offense.
Let the Republicans try to explain to the American people why this agenda is worse than the nightmare agenda they propose. This is the plan for all Democrats to get behind and support.

6. Taking nothing away from Rawstory, but...this is news, right?
Will the corporate news media even acknowledge that the Democrats are offering a plan that will really lower the deficit while delivering the foundation for a 21st Century economy?

8. Those cRaZy radicals!
With their slowing down the money train to the uberwealthy, ending pointless and counter productive wars, historically moderate taxes, and modest compared to our needs investment in our crumbling country.

Those kooks!

When common sense and moderation become "far left" we have arrived in Fuckedsville.

A budget like this can't be the deep end of the debate. That should be "center", not radical.

Sounds like a GREAT idea.

17. Your are right. There is no hope that the problems could be
solved by intelligent and fair legislation. Let's just all curl up in a cynical, all-knowing ball, and die. Now there is a plan that would work.

12. Love it
Would love to see the media acknowledge that this exists but I'm not holding my breath. These progressives deserve all of our respect, no one can blame them for the problems we have right now, they are the only ones making legitimate, reasonable proposals which would actually address our financial problems. Ryan's plan is insane nonsense, this plan bases its numbers on facts and reality.

13. Nice to see this story going viral, according to
the social bookmark stats compared to other articles on the front page.

Good on the Progressives!

I say we spread this around, make bumper stickers, put it in sigs, FREEWAY BLOG, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, spread it everywhere every single day:

TAX THE RICH, END THE WARS, SLASH OIL SUBSIDIES, INVEST IN JOBS

Don't even mention where it comes from unless asked. Just move the message.

14. Tax the rich sounds so...so...
...progressive. About time someone had the guts to propose what the nation needs after 30 years of trickle down.
