Sheriff: Girls robbed of $150 at lemonade stand

Monday, April 11, 2011

(04-11) 17:52 PDT Warner Robins, Ga. (AP) --

Authorities say three girls selling lemonade in central Georgia to raise money for a hospitalized toddler were robbed of about $150 at their stand.

Houston County Sheriff's Lt. Jon Holland said Monday that a man and woman approached the girls Saturday and the man snatched the money jar from a 13-year-old girl.

Authorities told WMAZ-TV that a 21-year-old woman was subsequently arrested and deputies are seeking a male suspect.

The children were trying to raise money for a cousin of one of the girls, a 2-year-old who will soon undergo treatment for an intestinal disease in Cincinnati.

2. I'm sure this left a sour taste in their mouths.

But it's an important lesson in life. They should have invested some of that $150 in security. All of a sudden I get the feeling this should be moved to the guns forum.

7. Think about the two things that are REALLY sad here;
1) That these girls even had a reason to raise money for medical treatment.

2) That the economy is bad enough that anyone would steal from a Lemonade Stand.

Maybe they're crackheads... In which case, it goes back to the medical issue. Either way... this is sad.

9. It would be a dick-ish thing to do, but I've been tempted ...

... to have an ink-stamp made that says "This is The Republican Party Health Plan - Begging For Pennies". I would stamp posters and flyers in convenience stores hosting leave-a-penny fundraisers.

10. Why not be tempted to drop a few pennies in instead?
It would be a lot less dick-ish temptation, and those in need would certainly appreciate your generosity more than your political opinion.

13. A.) It's not an opinion. It's a fact.
Or are you one of those mushy "both sides have a point" people?

B.) Where, except for in your mind, did you get the idea I DON'T drop money in those jars?

17. Because you chose to suggest otherwise
I can only know as much as you offer. And you offered a political statement posted on a pennies for those in need jar. Not much good you can take from such a notion.

Doesn't matter if what you put on there is a fact or not.
It's not your jar to defile.
Next, some dick follows your lead and writes his tea bagger comment to counter.
Soon, the store owner says screw this and bans the jars.

15. Dropping a few pennies doesn't confront THE BIG DICKS
like the 1%'ers and corporations who pay NO TAXES. OR the megachurches WHO PAY NO TAXES...yet use the police dept. (to direct traffic on Sunday, etc.) and the fire dept. to protect their structure, etc....THEY PAY NOTHING in the 'community'. THEY just suck the teet....and contribute NOTHING.

Think of that popular (and so true 'joke' of a few weeks ago) that the 1%'ers and the corporations take nine of the ten cookies and leave us *fools* fighting over that 10th cookie.

CONFRONT THE BIG PICTURE. CONFRONT THOSE WHO ARE STEALING FROM YOU/US.

12. The money wasn't to be used for medical treatment
It was to be travel money for the mother to go along.
