Wow..Russia has been dumping radioactive waste, including 2 reactors, in the Sea of Japan for years.
It is been known that Soviet Union/Russia had disposed of highly radioactive waste in the sea of Far East area on at least six occasions since 1978.
In 1978, Soviet Union dumped two nuclear reactors off North Korea.
In 1985, it dumped radioactive waste in the Pacific Ocean (specific location is unknown).
In 1992, it dumped containers of liquid radioactive waste in the Sea of Japan.
In 1989, it disposed of components of a submarine reactor in the Pacific Ocean off Kamchatka peninsula.
In 1992, it dumped containers of nuclear waste in the Pacific off Kamchatka.
In 1985,Soviet submarine reactor exploded in the Sea of Japan and it has continued to emit radiation ever since.

In addition to those dumpings, Russia seems to have continued to dispose of low-level
radioactive wastes as late as October 1993 when a Greenpeace vessel
witnessed and reported the Russia's dumping of liquid waste.

Wonder how much USA has been dumping, and how long we and esp. Japan have been eating tainted sea food?

3. Since at least 1950? For almost 60 years and we are just now finding out?
No two headed fish? No glow in the dark seaweed as clues? No radiation sickness? No suspicious radioactivity?
Life is normal there, at least till now? No high rates of cancers?

5. War against "Wow"ism
Edited on Tue Apr-12-11 02:15 PM by Bragi
I would note that beginning a sentence with the word "Wow" doesn't make whatever follows more interesting, any more than adding an exclamation mark makes something more startling.

I associate the "Wow" stylistic affectation with people who read too many political blogs.

6. There are large US radioactive waste dump sites off both of our coasts
Even a nuclear bomb off South Carolina.

That doesn't even count the nuclear submarines both sides have lost over the years with their entire reactors.

8. If you have any radioactive waste to dump now's the time to do it...
... if anyone notices, just point toward Japan.

Nope, not me, Tepco did it, I swear!

It makes me wonder if any of the radiation we are attributing to the Japanese catastrophe isn't coming from somewhere else.

10. It's scary to think how much dumping has gone on for so long, and in so many places.
Somali waters have been a prime dumping ground for European and Asian firms since its gov't fell eighteen years ago.
