Bart Stupak’s New Lobbying Firm Represents Planned Parenthood of Maryland
Yeah that Stupak, of C-Street fame. In that health insurance reform bill.

Oh, and Stupak's hard line anti-abortion amendment that he insisted be attached to the "health care" bill, was in pursuit of 'the agenda of Americans United for Life, who wanted a commitment that no money go toward Planned Parenthood clinics regardless of what it is used for'. (That would seem to have included family planning, preventive health, STD treatment, all to be shoved onto the chopping block.)

And now, Stupak has cycled back out of government, and is now a lobbyist; his company has Planned Parenthood of Maryland as a client. It's beyond description how deplorable this is.

Kate Ackley at Roll Call reports:

April 11, 2011

Just hours after announcing his move to K Street, former Rep. Bart Stupak is already getting some attention for an existing client of his new firm.

The Michigan Democrat, who opposes abortion rights, is joining the law and lobbying firm Venable, which represents Planned Parenthood of Maryland. As a Member of the House, Stupak became a champion of the anti-abortion movement during last year’s debate over President Barack Obama’s signature health care overhaul. Stupak put the brakes on the overhaul with his amendment to bar federal funds from being used to pay for abortions, but he ultimately reached a deal on the issue with the White House.

.....

Stupak called the attention on Venable’s client “much ado about nothing.” Although Planned Parenthood does provide abortion services, it mostly focuses on women’s health, preventive care and birth control counseling, and Stupak said he voted in Congress to fund the organization because of its health care work.

He also pointed out that “there are restrictions on how they use their money” — federal funds aren’t used for abortions, but for cancer screenings and other health care services.
Venable spokesman Joshua Spivak said that even if Stupak were to work for Planned Parenthood, it would be consistent with his Congressional voting record.

.....

Run, don't walk away from this guy as fast as possible.

And don't EVER elect him to anything again.

1. The question is, why on Earth would PP hire that slimeball?

2. PP hired Venable, Venable hired Stupak
So it's sort of a stove-pipe to say that PP hired Stupak. However, by the rules instituted by the Let Women Die cult, Planned Parenthood's lobbying money is a fungible that does indeed go to pay Stupak. One wonders why Stupak would accept such tainted funds, coming as it does from providing abortions. Apparently Stupak is opposed to abortions that don't pay him money. But if he gets a little taste, then abort away!

That is, if you're going to accept the anti-choice framing on this issue.

3. Deplorable? Considering he's anti-choice, I'm glad he advocates FOR birth control.
The guy's an epic douche - no argument from me on that - but he appears to have picked the "right team" for a client.
