I read about this here on DU a few days ago.

Well, that smarmy prick should start worrying right about now:

Man sentenced to 9 years in prison for lying about gluten-free bread.

Yeah, I know, different jurisdictions creates some issues as far as precedent goes, but just the same, the fact remains that you can go to prison for intentionally poisoning customers.

Perhaps someone should call the NYC District Attorney's office and let them know what Chef Damian Cardone has been up to...

2. If someone dies because of it I'm sure he would be.
But many are on gluten free diets as the latest "thing". I think this was a bad statement on how he feels about the ridiculousness of it.

5. I avoid gluten
even though I tested negative for celiac. I have severe IBS and eczema and it's the only thing that helps my symptoms. It's not "ridiculous" at all. I don't understand why people get so hostile and offended about other peoples food choices. I don't care about what you eat and if you were a vegetarian, I certainly wouldn't slip you meat because I think your diet is "ridiculous"

6. I was unaware of a potential link between eczema and gluten
Have you found avoiding it to be helpful? I get mild eczema

8. Gluten Intolerence and eczema
One of the symptoms of gluten intolerance is a skin rash that can look very much like eczema. And yes, it itches.

From Livestrong.com

Rash
Dermatitis herpetiformis may occur if you have gluten intolerance. Antibodies released from gluten ingestion deposit under the first layer of skin, causing groups of watery, itching blisters. DH may be the only sign of gluten intolerance in some people. If you experience DH, following a gluten-free diet is a must to prevent intestinal damage from occurring.

Symptoms of DH include patches of itchy skin that are often painful to the touch. The rash may develop into raised areas of skin that turn into small, watery blisters that are intensely itchy. DH commonly forms on the elbows, knees, buttocks, face, scalp and shoulders.

10. Thanks for the info
I mostly get it on the hands, so it's more likely something I'm regularly handling. I'll see about the gluten aspect though.

13. Agree
My GI rash usually shows up on my scalp and back.

If yours is showing up on a specific place like your hands, I'd look for a product cause like a new soap or hand lotion. Hope you find whatever it is.

11. Here is some info
http://celiac-disease.com/does-gluten-trigger-eczema/

I've had eczema my whole life and for me, avoiding gluten really does help. I also have oral allergy syndrome to apples, almonds, strawberries and hazelnuts as well. My lips and eyelids will itch and swell like crazy (especially now when the pollen count is so high) when I eat that stuff so I never poo poo anyone if they say they are allergic or sensitive to anything.

7. I am avoiding sugar and this co-worker keeps on trying to give me a jamba juice
When I specifically said I was avoiding it. I know he was trying to be nice but he kept on giving me donuts and cakes etc. When I say I'm trying to diet he tells me I don't need to lose weight. I had to go on a spiel about how diabetes and pancreatic cancer run in my family and the irony is it runs in his family too.

So I know all too well that people pooh pooh others eating choices. I'm not justifying this idiots behavior but I know exactly where it comes from.

It felt really rude to not drink it but I took a few sips and honestly it was so sweet I felt kind of ill. I'm not used to all that sugar anymore

12. My SO makes bread!
*Sigh*

I've talked elsewhere about my intended's poor nutrition habits. He's a junk food junkie, a 47 yo who eats like a teenager. It's not unusual for him to make instant mashed potatoes, the whole box and call it dinner!

I've told him before that I want to not eat wheat based products. And every weekend. like clockwork, "Let's make bread! Let's make pasta!" He's a sweetie but it just does not register with him that I eat differently than he does. Although lately, he had come around to getting gluten free noodles. So he's learning. :P :D

16. You should make GF bread with him.
I've been making the Bob's Red Mill GF homemade bread mix for my wife once every 2 weeks for the past year. It's way better than any of the store bought ones and we can just throw it all in the bread machine and it's ready in a couple of hours.

It is a hard transition for those of us who can eat gluten, when our spouse cannot and the best thing to do is to just clear most of the gluten items out of the house. Wife's parents are the opposite though...her mom has really bad gluten intolerance, but her dad refuses to eat any of the gluten free stuff, so she has to make 2 of everything she makes - one with gluten free ingredients and one normal. I just find it so much easier to eat gluten free also and just have to make 1 of everything for both of us.

3. Good!
My wife is allergic to gluten and is sick the whole next day after eating just small amount accidentally. This isn't something people should be lying about, it's a real thing that I think is very under-diagnosed.

4. I have a friend who has Celiac disease...
I have seen first hand that it is indeed a very real thing.

Would this shithead have smeared peanut butter all over the food of someone who has a severe peanut allergy?

9. Apparently, the shithead has left Colorado...
and is holed up somewhere in New Jersey.

The Celiac boards are all over this guy, just waiting for him to pop up at another restaurant somewhere.

14. He should be shunned from the culinary world. Would he blow of
a diabetic request or a tree nut allergy? People can die from food allergies. What an unprofessional hack.
