Now toddler is served SANGRIA at Olive Garden restaurant
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1376391/Now-toddler-served-SANGRIA-Olive-Garden-restaurant.html

A furious mum is planning legal action against a popular restaurant chain after her two-year-old son got drunk... when staff served him a cup of sangria!

Jill Van Heest, from central Florida, took her little boy Nikolai to dinner at the Olive Garden on Highway 98 in Lakeland on March 31st.

She claims he ordered orange juice and was brought a drink in a plastic cup. He drank most of it and minutes began behaving rowdily - clambering about on the furniture and being noisy.

At first Jill thought he was just behaving badly but then the waiter and the restaurant manager came over to their table and admitted they had served the youngster booze by mistake.

2. I see the press has found a new and important hot topic
The one in a million chance stories are so much fun! Olive Garden and Applebee's are the WORST. RESTURANTS. EVER!

38. The Odds Are Against Us!!
Five incidences! That gives the toddler population of America like a one in a million chance of being served a serving of alcohol!

The most of obvious answer here it to gather the mob and put all chain restuarants to the torch*. It's the only way to protect the children!

*(Granted, most chain restaurants should be put to the torch...but not because of this).

4. I wasn't aware that Applebees and Olive Garden had liquor licenses
to begin with and they were allowed to serve alcohol to anyone.

5. Are they not like any other restaurant?
Edited on Wed Apr-13-11 09:35 AM by backscatter712
I've ordered beers & other drinks from Applebees and Olive Garden countless times.

Though with the OP standing as an exception, they normally don't serve booze to kids. That's like illegal and stuff.

I'm a former bartender for Bee's, and I can see how they may have fucked that up. Bartenders for Bee's are under a lot of pressure, as they are responsible not only for their bar, but for the server's drinks too, and many times they are also responsible for car side to go. Even so, containers are labeled and at the Bee's I worked at we never used pre-made items. Margarita's were "built" in the glass, and special glasses for alcoholic drinks. The margarita mix (which is just the mix, no alcohol) was kept near the juices in regular bar set up, labeled (the labels suck and tend to fall off) and each container (speed pours) has a different color tape to identify what was in it. Ex: cranberry juice has red and black tape around the container, apple juice, just black tape. Frozen margarita mix (no alcohol) has green and black tape, and rocks margarita mix has just black tape.

31. Both Olive Garden and Applebees have dedicaded Bar sections as well.
At least around here they do. They have entire drink/wine menus.
Have you ever even been to either restaraunt??

Just pointing out that this is normal behavior for many 2 year olds - not really evidence of being intoxicated.

20. What kind of person takes a 2-year-old to an Olive Garden anywhere?
There is a span of time where children should not be taken to "regular" restaurants if it can at all be avoided.

Roughly the ages of one to fifteen.

27. I don't know, I've had Sangria at an Olive Garden and it's hard to believe...
even a toddler could get drunk on it. Maybe just our local franchise dilutes them so much, but the drink I had, had very little alcohol.

How does a mother not notice that the "orange juice" was RED-ISH_PURPLE?

40. I loved beer when I was a little kid
my dad would always let me finish the last sip of his....of course, as I got older I figured out it was all back wash in the bottle. :puke: but they always let us have sips of wine, or even at weddings we were allowed a little bit of champagne.
